My Picnik is Ruined!

By
Real Estate Agent with HomeSmart

I was feeling good this morning - and I'm not a morning person.  I'm gearing up to show some houses today picnik basket with antand all was well, even the day after 6 inches of snowfall.

Then I read my e-mail.  Picnik will be shutting it's doors.  They are even going to rebate my upgrade fee.  I don't want my upgrade fee - I want my Picnik!

I've used Photoshop for years.  I don't find it easy.  I use Snagit for some nice edits, but it doesn't offer as much as Picnik.  I've tried all of the other free online editors (Gimp, Irfanview, Splashup, Photoscape and more).  I've downloaded some and got rid of them when I didn't like it.  I don't mind paying, but it must be as easy-to-use as Picnik.

Can anyone help?  Have you found a photo editor that is anywhere near Picnik?  I see that Google+ is offering some things but I haven't tried it yet.  I quickly read through Lightbox View and Creative Kit, and I'm not getting it.  I'll have to get to know Windows Live photo editor, they make it look easy on TV and I've been meaning to try it but why bother when I had Picnik.

I'll need to keep experimenting on other editors so I can be ready to go when Picnik will be gone April 19, 2012.  I know that day will be coming too soon.

Businesses close, things change.  I have never felt so depressed about the ending of a product like I do about Picnik.

I just started using Picnik and found it very easy.  I am so disappointed to hear this.  Please keep us posted on what you find to replace it.

The sky hasn't fallen.  Google is probably just revamping it and rebranding it.  Hold tight.

Kathy, it was just so easy!  I guess I've never really spent much time on the other editors once I started using Picnik.  I have to be ready when they're no longer available.  There are some Picnik afficionados here on AR and I'll be eager to find out what they're going to start using.

I'm with you Judy...I love user-friendly programs and I hate long learning curves.  And searching for the right product is often a painful waste of time.  I like Picnik too and don't look forward to the time I'll spend looking for something else!

Suzanne, that's what I'm hoping.  I just don't see it yet, but then I haven't given it much of a try.  They can't just throw away such a program.

No doubt someone here is going to give us all a heads up on something new/old wonderful that they know about...let's hold tight for a little while!

Larry & Sheila - I did some digging and found some other free editors that were pretty good.  Some are easy to use but the interface just isn't as good as Picnik.  I'm sure Google is going to package it up differently for us after April 19th but the "packaging" of Picnik was one of the things I liked about it above all others besides the ease of use.

Well you know how I feel because you saw my post on the subject....not sure you saw my update though.  I found a pretty decent replacement - iPiccy.  Check it out, it's not perfect (like Picnik) but there is hope!  The only thing I do in Picnik that I noticed I can't do in iPiccy is make collages and I suggested that feature in a poll they are taking.

Another site I think might be good is FotoFlexer

Judy - Picnik was so easy to use. I was completely taken by surprise and disappointed to receive the same email you refer to that they are shutting up shop in April.  I checked out iPiccy and FotoFlexer and they seem pretty good. - thanks Sharon (#9). BeFunky also looks quite promising.
