Please don’t come to me and ask how to get more business and then don’t do anything!

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Respect Realty LLC 200311024

I love teaching classes on blogging and lead generation, but as always happens, I have some 30 people in the class and if I’m lucky one person will actually do what I teach them. It is like they are afraid of success?

I want to help you get more business, but you have to do something for yourself. It isn’t like what I’m teaching you takes you 6 hours aday, the stuff I teach you only takes about an hour a day and at aminimum should get you one lead a day.

Now, if you can close 1 deal aweek from those leads then you are doing a lot more than you are doing now at one transaction every six months. But, I’m starting to think the agents that come to these seminars are just coming for the free donuts and are expecting us to hand them a commission check when they leave.

Sorry, there is some work involved with getting business. It isn’t much, no one has ever died doing what I have taught. Heck, I haven’t even tried to hit the point of killing people with boredom. (I try to make my classes a little exciting)

So, please if you are asking for more business and taking classes on how to get more business, then listen and take action and I promise within a month you will be doing business. (Or there is the alternative) Do nothing, waste an hour or two of your time and in one month I promise you will be asking yourself again, why I do I not have any business.

This reminds me of many conversations I've had with Realtors and other loan officers.  They want the business and they'll meet with you, but then they don't take any action to do anything different.

Teachers, good teachers always learn more than the students! Nothing hones your skills more than teaching.

As to the free coffee and donuts the only thing that turns out more agents is an open bar. That said I teach for those (Few?) that listen.

I hear you Todd. But the one that occurs within the class which I find interesting, is when those agents there to learn and not doing very much business tell you that something someone who is doing millions of dollars of business is doing will not work. What? I guess people struggle to actually implement the ideas. Not sure why they attend in the first place. Have a great day Todd.

Many if not most of these folks are paying to find that magic bullet that will get them business for nothing. They do this in seminars, coaches, and especially paying for lead generation services.  But, unless they do some work they are throwing their money away.

Todd you are correct with that statement, if you want more business and look to find new methods of obtaining it, then you should take the steps to implement versus waiting for it to happen.  It is like going to a Network event and not talking to anyone.  How are you going to meet new people of develop new contacts if you don't talk with them?

I'm amazed when newbie property management programs ask me how I have grown my business TWICE and don't believe me OR fail to do the same * 2 businesses from SCRATCH * all by myself * 20 years apart * I must be doing something CORRECTLY!

I get you Todd.  I have found in business as in personal life some people are doer bees and some are not.  It doesn't take one long to figure out which is which.  I prefer to surround myself with busy bees.   Make it a great Sunday in all you do!

So what I am hearing is that you actually have to work to be successful in this business?  Get out!  I met with six agents in my office last year and tried to teach them how to blog and use Facebook to attract business.  None of them did a thing.  Total waste of time.

Todd, I find people ASK for help all the time, but want it DONE FOR THEM. Some folks are just lazy, or just used to getting everything they want handed to them.

On the other hand, some things that seem simple to the person teaching, can be very overwhelming and frightening to the person being taught, so they are afraid to do them.

Todd - you can lead a horse to water but you can not make him drink.  So sad... anyone can be successful - if they WORK at it!!

Todd,  It is so funny how some agents just want a get rich quick scheme and don't want to work for their business.  Sitting back and waiting for the phone to ring does not pay the bills.  So what kind of donuts are you serving for these folks to come out for those?  Must be extra special.  It is frustrating when you feel like you aren't getting through to people.

Could not agree with you more. Few months ago, an agent chased me down to ask how to generate more business, after multiple phone calls we talked on the phone, I suggested few things, and he responded with little to none interest... I hardly think he took the notes,or apply any ideas since then.

Bill, you are so correct, I do learn just as much teaching as I do when in a class. It makes me sharpen my own skills.
