Thank Heavens For Modern Conveniences

Outhouse on Haislip/Hall Farm in PWC

There are times when the weather is cold and snow is on the ground that we can all be thankful for some of the advances in modern living.

This little gem is located behind the renovated Haislip-Hall log cabin in Prince William County VA.  It's a reminder that for farm families in the 1800's a trip to the bathroom meant planning for all kinds of weather.

The flush toilet and indoor plumbing are inventions we can all say thank-you for!

My grandparents had one of these and when we spent the night there was no avoiding having to use it! I can honestly say that I will be forever grateful that someone invented indoor plumbing!!!  There are so many things that I am grateful for with real estate too, one of which is DocuSign. This has saved me so many hours of driving and allowed my clients to be the first to present an Offer several times as well!

Glad I never 'got' to use one of those. Can't imagine going in the middle of the night when it is icy or snow is on the ground.

Amen! The simple things in life we take for granted. That would not be fun to use on a very cold day.

Have an awesome day!

Edward and Ceclia-my grandparents had an outhouse for the "old" house on the property.  Fortunately the bigger house they built as the family grew had an indoor bathroom.  Granddad still used the outhouse often though.

Hannah-I'm sure that's what the chamber pots were for.  No way I'd tromp out the outhouse in the  middle of the night.

Krista-I'd agree with your assesment of DouSign.  With the price of gas and the opportunity time lost by driving around to get signatures it's a boon to our business.

Thanks for stopping by Michael.  Guess you've never had to figure out the value of an outhouse to a property :-)

Hi Cindy, thanks for the reminder how modern technology has given us indoor plumbing.

However , a few years ago we drove from Boca Raton, Florida to Barrow, Alaska. We used many

of these fine "houses".

Irene-given a choice between an outhouse and most gas station bathrooms...I'd take the outhouse.

Kay-I'm glad for my indoor plumbing though I do realize there are those in the US who still depend on outhouses.
