So Cindy "How is that Real Estate Thing Working Out For You?"

By
Real Estate Agent with Integrity Real Estate Group

Chatting About Real Estate With FriendsIt's always fun to catch up with former business associates who you haven't seen in awhile.  Having left a lucrative business career to go into real estate full time a few folks were shaking their head.

This week over a cup of coffee I was asked "how is that real estate thing working out for you?"  After a chuckle my response was just fine.

"But isn't it boring showing houses over and over again?"

Let's see this week I've show foreclosures priced at $75,000 to homes listed for $1.4 Million and a few at prices in-between.  I've met with families who have to deal with 50 years of memories in a home to couples who are upside down on their mortgage.  Boring I don't think so.

"On TV it's show three houses and the couple buys one.  Isn't that the way it works all the time?"

Would you like to talk to my clients who made 6 offers on houses before they finally landed a deal on their 7th try?

"It sounds like this real estate thing is working out for you."

Yes I'm glad I made the change but I'll admit there is one thing I do miss from my old job.

Really what is it?

My frequent flyer miles.  I've almost used up my huge stash of miles and I'm going to miss those first class upgrades and early boarding passes.  Looks like I'm headed to the back of the plane.

So ends another week in real estate.

Do you have any friends who still wonder if that real estate thing is working out for you?

Cindy, yes, funny you should ask! I was asked the other day, why don't you get a job? And the person proceeded to tell me of a place they knew where I might be interested. I almost spit out my coffee. My response is I don't want a job! I want my real estate business. It's why I got in the first place. Besides, I get to help people and get paid for it. The only thing I miss from my former job is the bi-weekly paychecks.

I find that the job of being a real estate professional is grossly misunderstood by the public. They have one experience and think it's always like that. Your post was right on the money.

Many people just don't understand  and they don't have a clue about the Real Estate Business as a whole. They look at the real estate shows on tv and really think that is how it is...you show 3 homes and the buyer picks one and purchases it.

Cindy,

So very true!  Yeah, now we just are working to get lots of Capital One miles on our business credit card.

I used to work for IBM.  So, the questions are almost comincal, when they wonder WHY I am doing real estate.  It's people problem solving - it works for me!

All the best, Michelle

Pamela-I learned quickly how to adjust to commission checks and budget accordingly so living without the regular paycheck is now a thing of the past.

Adrian-I think the news about the "bad" market likely fuel the questions from others.

Nate-there are days that can be a complete surprise in our buisness.  You learn to think quick to be able to respond.

Carolotta-wish it was a simple as they make it on TV.  Also love the negotations of a Buyer's agent running in and out of a house talking to the sellers.  HUH?  Where does that happen?

Cindy - that's a great story.  I just hate it when people think we have a "JOB".  For me, it's a business - my business, not a J-O-B.   But, I like to tell people I love what I do, and it's never boring :)
