There was a recent blog concerning how difficult it is to keep up with the increasing number of passwords and usernames as the internet grows more complicated and treacherous. When you add having to change passwords every 2-3 months of top of remembering what they were the last time you visited the site--that situation has all the makings of a crazymaker!! And have you ever noticed that it is always those times when you are the most stressed and time crunched that you have to come up with the forgotten password or username? It seems to never fail for me!!
My personal solution has been to use a password manager for the last 4-5 years. This was suggested to me by my computer whiz son and it has certainly saved me many a password headache. I use RoboForm Everywhere (Online) which is an easy and secure way to manage your passwords. With RoboForm Everywhere (Online) you can sync your RoboForm passwords to multiple computers as well as access and manage those passwords from anywhere on multiple computer and mobile devices. I recently added Roboform to my I-phone and I-pad and with its master passwords for security I have no qualms about having it on my mobile devices.
If you have 10 or less passwords/usernames to save then your RoboForm version is free but if you need more passwords saved then there is a small yearly charge.
It will also save personal and company information which is very helpful filling out information forms on almost every website you visit these days. Another benefit is the mullitple credit card information it stores for one click shopping which may or may not be a good thing depending on how you look at it.
With the increasing amount of security needed to protect ourselves from whatever decides to "invade" our privacy I know it is always hard to decide whether or not to use some of the tools available to us. My personal experience is that this password manager has been a timesaver and a brainsaver and I know there are other utilities available to choose from that are worthwhile. I can only speak of this program since this is the one I use everyday. Hopefully you can do a little research for yourself and decide if a program such as this one can help you or whether you want to depend on the notebook in the drawer. For me, the notebook and I never seem to be in the same place when I need it so this has been a great alternative.
