Make It Easy for People to Know Your Name ! ! !

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with MoonDancer Realty, Dillsboro,NC NC# 218097

Name TagThe principle reason any of us market our real estate businesses is to make it easy for the public to find us when they need a real estate agent or if they even hear the whisper of someone needing a real estate agent!

A core purpose behind all of the activities at ActiveRain is the same, although they call it by much more “cool” names…SEO…Google Juice…it is one and the same. We are all trying to stand out from the crowd of agents content to sit at their desk during “floor time” wishin’ and hopin’ and prayin’ that the phone will ring. We, however are conjuring powerful marketing mojo to make the phone ring!

As far as ActiveRain is concerned, I’m a Newbie and will always be a Newbie because I learn something Newbie-ish every single day. A couple of things I learned long before I started participating in ActiveRain though, was the concept of MAKE IT EASY FOR PEOPLE TO KNOW YOUR NAME ! ! !

Lucky for me, my parents must have looked into the bassinette when I was born and knew I’d be an entrepreneur of some sort so they gave me a somewhat unusual name. That’s helpful in business as long as it isn’t too unusual. You know, like Aloysius or Xavier or something else difficult to pronounce or spell.

You WANT your name associated with your face or your logo. You DON’T WANT an individual to have to take an arduous route to find out what your name is…they won’t do it. Humans are like water (actually they ARE water), they will MOST ALWAYS take the path of least resistance to accomplish a task like finding a real estate agent. MAKE IT EASY FOR PEOPLE TO KNOW YOUR NAME.

ActiveRain gives us some very user friendly options to do this. Folks, if we can’t make it easy for each other … how will we ever make it easy for consumers?

When you comment on someone’s postwhat does it say beneath your photo? Don't you WANT someone to know who you are?  Well then, your profile so that your name appears beneath the photo. Easy, easy, easy.

When we become Rainmakers with ActiveRain, one of the benefits is our very own NEW Outside Blog. Would you care to guess how many still call their New Outside Blog…My New Outside Blog? I don’t know…but I know it’s a lot! This is a ridiculously easy change …log into your outside blog, look at the tool bar…go into INFO…delete the title “MY NEW OUTSIDE BLOG” and name the darned thing!

We participate on AR for many reasons, personal and business but never forget we always want to make it easy for the public to find us and know our names!

Hi Mona,

I have not even thought about naming the outside blog.  SUGGEST!  I will follow up on this task next week.  Thanks and best of success to you this year!

Kind of like the song on the sitcom "Cheers" and the line that goes "where everyone knows your name..."  Of course we want the public to know us and your advice is spot on.

Oh, Mona, but it's so mysterious ... and I'm giggling about the one comment above! I just had to double-check if My New Outside Blog is still a New Outside Blog.. phew! I know I'm having some difficulties keeping up with it all and I did tweak my signature a few times but I had my name there from the get-go. It's weird to refer to a location or company in your response vs. a person! Right on Mona!

Mona- what a good reminder for us.  I know that when someone comments on my blog and I scroll to them I sometimes find a "ABC Real Estate, Muleshoe TX" under the name.  I either have to take the time to go to their site to find out their name or not.

Good point about taking advantage of what you have and making sure you are visible, not invisible.

Mona - We work so hard so people will know our names and connect us with real estate.  It is a constant project and if we had all better keep plugging away:)

Good Idea Jordon!  At least your name is under your photo.

Family Abstract, thanks for reading. Sincerely, Maureen.

Hi Mark, wish I'd thought about that song, I could have embedded the video.

Hi Andrea, you are too funny.  I'm sure you took care of naming your blog right away.

Hi Kathy, since the pages take so long to load I no longer go look! Thanks for the Banana Tude feature.

Hi Connie, don't want to be invisible.  I take every opportunity to keep us branded.

Hello Pam, it's a constant thing to work on.

who the heck is Maureen?????

Long time ago one agent told me to add "where you are located" and I went with my name and location.  I want folks to know "who to call" when they know someone moving to "where I work"

Hi Tammy, maybe Maureen is my alter ego?  I don't know but it seemed polite to just answer lol.  I should go and change mine...add the location.  When I started with AR, it was all so overwhelming.

Good Morning Barb, thanks and for sure if you do use your photo in your marketing pieces there would be nothing worse than meeting someone for the first time and them wondering where your daughter was lol.

Hi Wayne, sure wish I'd thought about using the clip.  Have a great day yourself.

Good day to you to Ms Filip.  I was mainly talking about...for example...beneath your photo on today's comment, all it tells me is TLF Properties.  Is your first name Texoma?  To be sure, I'll need to leave this comment box to check.  Which I'm willing to do, just not sure everyone is.  Have a good day yourself.

Personal branding a great idea!

Changed the fields:

— First name: [...................]  to my Full name, with a separator;

Then, I put my slogan in the other field

— Last name: [...................]

Result: My comment signature is much better now!

The spaces between words controls how the words wrap, in the area just below the photo on your blog.
