Ventura Drought Resistant LandscapeVentura County Smart gardening is a form of landscaping that uses drought-tolerant plants and planting techniques to reduce the amount of water needed for landscaping purposes by up to 50 percent. A typical landscape consumes 50 to 70 percent of residential water use. A key consideration when planting a Ventura County landscape is to group plants together that require similar watering needs, which makes it a lot easier to connect them up to a single valve that will water them at equal amounts on an as-needed basis. Preparing soil with additional amendments will help the soil retain water and prevent evaporation.

Good tips, Kathy! I garden a good bit, but have to admit I'm not familiar with the term, "Smart Gardening." It seems like a very interesting concept. Living in the south, we sometimes wish we could dry our garden out enough so we could actually get in it. So a concept like this for the environment/water conservation is pretty neat.

Thanks Tammy for your comment.  We are under our annual rain fall amounts, so anything we can do to save water is important, even though we are located right next to a very large "pool" of water...the Pacific Ocean, how ironic!
