Should You Go DIY with Property Maintenance?

If you are renting out a property for the first time, you have a number of big decisions to make before you can start taking in rental applications. One of the most important is whether you should take care of property maintenance yourself or hire someone else for the job. While handling things yourself is tempting because it means you don’t have to pay someone else to do it; there are definite pros and cons to both options.

When you handle maintenance yourself on the properties you manage, it means that you don’t have to pay someone else for their time and labor. It's definitely cheaper on the face of it to simply fix things yourself. All you need to pay for out of pocket are the parts and tools necessary for the job. However, out-of-pocket expense is not the only question you should consider.
