Realtor Apprenticeship?????????????

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Community Partners Realty

How would you like to see realtors with designated experience levels?

Do we need to disclose the fact that we are inexperienced if we are?

For example the first 10 transactions you would have to be an apprentice to an experienced agent.

I would love to get feedback on this subject as it has puzzeled me for years.

I am not dogging newbies here i just think the public should know.

When I first started my broker required that the first 10 transactions be overseen by an experienced agent.  (5 listings - 5 buyers, no exceptions!)

Did I tell people upfront I was new?  No.  If they asked about my experience I told them. I didn't offer it up.  With another experienced agent overseeing everything I did I felt confident that not only was I doing a great job for my clients but that I was also protecting them in the process.

Martin, I think that is a great idea. I know coming from the Mortgage side I have seen many new Realtors new in the business and don't have a clue. Also, in Florida when you recieve your Mortgage Broker license that only tells what is legal and not how do actually do a loan. Maybe something like that should be in place aswell.

That is a pretty good idea.  In my first year I got my ABR and GRI.  I felt I wanted to learn more, because I was new.  I used it to my advantage.  We would be kinda like a Trade.

Mentoring is always a good idea, but few realty offices offer any kind of mentoring program.  I have wondered why myself.

Great Idea, would the experienced agent get a portion of the commission?  We really need to take a look at the level of expertise that agents have today.  Many people got into this during our boom period to make a fast dollar, now they are struggling and many will do whatever they have to do to close a deal, no matter the consequence.  Our office does a great job of mentoring the new agents, providing they want it.  Many agents think that they get thier license and contracts will fall from the sky, they do not realize how much work is involved.

I think that on any level, we as agents benefit from mentoring or coaching.
