Luxury Real Estate Marketing: Another New "In" Vegetable

By

heirloom broccoli, Saturday market in Santa Barbara

One of our favorite vegetable pushers (as he refers to himself) treated us to the new "in" vegetable.  Heirloom broccoli ipictured above is the ancestor of the broccoli we now see in supermarkets.   He explained that the taste of the heirloom broccoli is much more flavorful that the regular broccoli, and we are looking forward to tasting it. He feels that the heirloom variety is even more nutritious and contains higher levels of antioxidants.   This heiloom variety is great in pasta, stir fried, steamed or sauteed with butter and garlic.

What makes this vegetable "in" are all the restaurants chefs who shop at the organic markets up and down the Central and Southern California coast.   We see them every Saturday morning with their large carts on wheels buying for their evening menu.  What a wonderful synergistic business relationship, as everyone benefits.

Happy Saturday, Cheers, Ron & Alexandra

Hi Alexandra, Broccoli is always in with me!  I'm glad to hear chefs are helping others appreciate this particular variety.  I just might have to cook up some broccoli tonight....

Have a great weekend!

Another veggie to add to the array...trying to eat a lot more of the "greens".

Toni,

What a funny remark, I did not think about the real meaning of ancestry...I got caught in a moment of hyperbole, it is all that luxury stuff we deal with...anyway it is the original broccoli as we had discovered it before we started messing with it and breeding it to be just so!  I am looking forward to tasting it tomorrow night. LOL, A

Gloria,

We are occasional broccoli fans, so we are eager to try this variety to add to our repertoire of greens.  Our chefs are great around here, and we appreciate that they are so caring as to cook with organic fruits and vegetables, it is better for everyone. A

Li,

Good for you, and we try to maintain a 70% vegetable and salad ratio to 30% protein.  We feel even better on that ratio.  A

Hi Alexandra, this heirloom broccoli looks a little bit like a pretty bouquet of flowers.  I admit I haven't met a cabbage that I haven't liked. :-)

Now that heirloom tomatoes are all the rage, I guess we should expect other heirloom vegetables to come forward.  I haven't seen heirloom broccoli on this coast, but whatever files in California will eventually get here too  : )

I just had broccoli for lunch and it didn't look anything like that - that looks so dainty!  Will definitely have to try it!

Hi Ron & Alexandra,

Yum Yum I adore broccoli but have never seen this kind. I will have to look at our farmers market this weekend. It looks especially tasty since the stems are thin and probably more tender. I always cut off the thick parts so maybe we can leave them on with Heirloom style. Thanks so much for sharing. I know I am going to want some tomorrow when I wake up but that's OK since it is so healthy for us.
