What New Things Have You Tried Lately?

clipart purchased from iclipartOne of the great things about the 2012 Big Jumpstart Blog Challenge is that it encourages us to take a closer look at ActiveRain.

The guiding principles and philosophy of the organization (Weltanschauung) is set forth and is a great guideline for us.

Principle #7 is: "We encourage dissenting and contrarian points of view because our industry is better served by continually examining the status quo.  Challenging conventional wisdom is often essential for the evolution of our industry and the development of new opportunities."

ActiveRain has been quick to point out new and better technology and offers many educational opportunities which allow members to view and learn new things.

Often a member will post about new things and different ideas as to how to work within our industry.  I'm certain that some members don't really care for some of the ideas expressed but the forum has allowed them to be discussed.

This benefits all of us and our industry.  I know in reading it, I stopped and thought about changes I have seen in recent years in real estate and it made me feel that I need to be more proactive in trying new things.  I want to evolve and be the best possible in our industry.

Gary:

I think that has to do with change.  We need opposing views to stimulate our creative process.  I love Mexico.  Since I am a birder my goal is to go to Costa Rica on our next vacation, so I can bird to my hearts content.

Gary, I think when opposing views are professionally presented, it's good.  As we all know, there are at least 2 sides to every story and, when handled with professionalism, the discussions can lead to a new knowledge for everyone.  In every relationship - marriage, friendship, business relationship - there will be differences.

If I wrote, "you're a complete idiot for posting this", that would be rude and unprofessional.  If I wrote, "Gary, I disagree with this post because........." and cited my feelings or facts to support why I disagree, well, then, I may be dissenting and contrarian, but at least I could point out why I have a contrary view to yours.

How's Yazmin?

Wow -- I am having technical difficulties tonight.  I have this open in two different computers and on one it shows the completed post and on the other it shows the first draft which only has the quote from ActiveRain.  I tried refreshing both and got the same results.  Finally I copied the completed post and pasted it into the other post that was not complete and I now have both computers showing the same thing.

I don't know what you saw as you read the post but I hope you all saw the completed one. At least now both my computers are showing the same thing.

Evelyn, I agree - opposing views are really important.  And, I hope you really enjoy Costa Rica.  I'm looking forward to some photos from you.

Cheryl, Actually, I do have some more time -- the contest was extended due to technical problems in the Rain. It is quite a challenge.

Judi, I don't know -- if you wrote that I was "a complete idiot for posting this", I would probably agree with you. LOL.

Actually, I think your comment is excellent -- we do need different viewpoints and in a professional manner.

Discussing opposing viewpoints is just part of the process at AR.  Just as buyers and sellers have different viewpoints, this helps us to find a middle ground which is essential in bringing everyone together.

Doug, You make a great point -- especially about Buyers and Sellers.  we often forget that they have differing viewpoints.
