You are so busy...how do you have time to blog?  My answer: "maybe I am so busy because I make time to blog."

"ActiveRain is a place where real estate professionals can network with their peers and discuss industry insider topics. It is also a public forum where consumers can pull back the curtain and see what the real estate industry is really about."

Last year I sold one of my listings and the represented buyers started following my blog.  They came to one of my open houses and invited me to their open house..all through ActiveRain. Again  We tried to get their agent involved in ActiveRain. I talked about the benefits, about the business opportunity and offered to get her set up with some private sessions. I encouraged her to post her clients home for sale.

Being a dual career agent, her time was limited and she did not want to engage and never took me up on my invitation to join.

Her clients  continued following my daily posts and frequently commented. They tried to convince her to blog. It one of the first times that I've seen the public encourage blogging.

After seven months, I received  an email through my ActiveRain  account. These same people had already  terminated the listing and asked me if I would consider representing them. They knew I would not discuss their home while still listed with their friend and agent.

Suggested :)!  Blogging is a big deal.  I can't believe clients tried to get her to blog and she wouldn't do it.  Oh well, you can lead a horse to water...

Hi Margaret - Well said!  I tell people basically the same thing.  My blogging brings me clients.  A couple of years ago, I was closing sales when others in our office who had been doing well in the hot economy were without clients.  I suggested they blog since it was doing well for me, but they claimed it was a waste of time.  Oh well!

I believe a lot of folks don't think business will come from blogging in comparison of the time involved. I have spent many hours commenting and trying to be consistent. Personally I don't enjoy writing as much as talking. It takes too long and comes out differently. That being said, I'm hopeful down the road the investment of time will pay off.

Margaret - it is not about time, I think. It is about what we liek to do or what we don't. I blog not because there is the most business comes from it, but because I like to do it. Some people will not do it even if they have plenty of time. I know a few great agents, somuch better than I, and they will not blog. When they write, it is awful. When they speak, it is genius.

Well, wen I speak, I assume it is aswful

The issue is not so much time but commitment. And recognizing the value to our business. No matter want we spend time on, I think that most of the time it's because we see value. And it's not just in real estate.

I agree, Margaret!  I am busier because I blog.  I like the fact that not all agents blog.  It sets us apart.

Margaret, Great post.  I am going to stop and think of it every time that I can't seem to find the time to blog.  You are right that it is one way to keep our business growing.

I learned a while ago that the secret is not to prioritize your schedule, but rather to schedule your priorities. Blogging is a portion of my daily lead generation time.
