This is my first ever blog entry. I am the owner/managing broker of PuebCo Properties LLC in Pueblo, Colorado. One of my associates, Dena Stevens, has persuaded me that I could learn much from y'all. I have included a bio below for anyone interested and feel free to communicate with me. Thanks, Lou / LouLile@Yahoo.com
FORMER SCIENCE TEACHER FINDS NICHE IN REAL ESTATE
I taught science in Pueblo for 28 years. "I loved teaching science to middle schoolers (most of the time)'. They are excited to learn and are refreshingly honest about how they feel. There were very few dull moments. I inevitably related much of the general science I taught to the environment and especially liked designing activities my students and I could get our hands on. I guess I was a tree hugger before the term was coined(?).
I retired from teaching about 5 years ago and am working hard as ever as an environmentally conscious real estate broker. I am currently the owner of a real estate office located in Pueblo West. Although a full service real estate office, our specialty is selling newly constructed passive solar homes.
About 5 years ago I worked as a Century 21 broker associate and met an established local builder. I introduced the builder (David) to a young couple wanting a house built. From the planning stage to the day my clients walked into their new home it was a positive experience for all of us. David subsequently built a number of homes for my clients. Being the son of a builder and having personally constructed two of my own houses from the ground up, I did not take his professionalism for granted.
One day I asked David why he was not offering passive solar homes as part of his menu. Our combined interest and experience with solar energy spawned further discussions.
Within the past year as energy costs became even more unpredictable we agreed that now would be a good time to convert our talk into action. David initiated GemStar Passive Solar Homes and he asked my company to market them for him. Our mission was to design and build a fully passive solar home that more people could afford.
Each of our passive solar homes is monitored by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)and we recently won the award for "Most Affordable Energy Efficient Home" by our local Home Builder's Association. The EPA calculated that our model home is about 55% more energy efficient than a "typical" new home.
Although being gentle with the environment is my priority, if people can save money on utilities at the same time it sounds like a win-win situation to me.
