Fort Greene is a Brooklyn New York neighborhood which is listed on the New York State Registry the National Register of Historic Places and is a New York City designated Historic District.
Fort Greene is name for an American Revolutionary war fort built in 1776 which was under the Supervision of General Nathanael Green who also served with George Washington during the Battle of Long Island in 1776.
The neighborhood has many mid-19th century Italianate and Eastlake architecture . Currently home to such cultural institutions as the Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Museum of contemporaty African Diasporan Arts, UrbanGlass and the The Paul Robeson Theater.
