The Maydale Conservation Park is truly an oasis in the Colesville area of 20905 Silver Spring, MD. Tucked away in the Maydale subdivision its entrance can easily be missed - follow Briggs Chaney Rd, turn onto Maydale Dr and watch for the little signs, the Maydale Park will be on your right!
The park is part of the Upper Paint Branch and encompasses more than 24 acres for enjoyment. It features a stream, ponds, a playground, picnic areas and trails which are easily manageable for smaller kids.
It is also home to the Maydale Nature Center which used to hold environmental education programs for elementary school children until it was closed in 2008. Efforts to repair the center are led by the Friends of Maydale Nature Center, Inc. and there is hope that it may reopen in the future. (*The Colesville Patch*) A joint effort of Montgomery County Parks, the Montgomery County Public Schools (which operated the early childhood nature program) and the Friends of Maydale Nature Center seems necessary to see the Center reopen and succeed.
