Low Cost Ways to Spruce up Your Home

By
Real Estate Agent with Century 21 New Millennium

Sometimes the littlest things can make your home more appealing to a buyer.

Here are just a few ideas:

  1. Burn Scented Candles(Warm Vanilla and Apple-Cinnamon are good choices, stay away from floral scents)
  2. Depersonalize the space
  3. Put a pot of bright flowers on your porch.
  4. Edge the grass around walks and trees and keep lawn trimmed.
  5. Keep your garden tools out of site.
  6. Put toys away
  7. Use warm, incandescent light bulbs for a homey feel.
  8. Clean your gutters.
  9. Open curtains/blinds to let it as much light as possible
  10. Buy new towels.

Stacy, Nice short list. I like to tell sellers to prepare the house to show before they go to bed. This way when they get up in the morning and rush out the door the house is always ready for a daytime showing. Thanks for the post.

Good list - and so simple - but it seems like sellers have blinders on. The one I seem to get a lot lately is the blinds - for some reason people like to keep them shut - so dark in some of these houses.

Nice posting Stacy,

This seems like it would be simple enough - then why do sellers have such a problem with it?  I was thinking about it while writing this and is it because houses sit on the market so much longer that it gets old after a while - as they get depressed that there house hasn't sold.  I think I will use this as my daily blog.

Thanks Stacy

Howdy Stacy

Some very good tips you have posted for seller's to do. It is to bad that some seller's put blinders on. It could be from their home has not sold.

Have a good one

Great list Stacy!  I always tell my sellers to make sure that the front door is clean and hardware looks good because it is the first and last thing a potential buyer sees.  A nice wreath adds that homey feel.
