After spending 25 rainy years living in the Pacific Northwest, my husband and I decided it was time to move our family south and take in some sunshine for a change. Fond childhood memories beckoned us both back to California, but where in California was the question. A family road trip to explore and rediscover California was the next step. It’s a big state and this was a big move. We wanted to get it right. For some reason, we both had the impression that southern California would be a concrete jungle and were very pleasantly surprised by what we found, particularly in beautiful Temecula. We found a charming, friendly, safe, new feeling, perfectly sized community with great schools (Temecula Valley Unified School District) and incredible scenery everywhere we looked. The name Temecula, from the Luiseño Indian word "Temecunga" is translated to mean "Where the sun breaks through the mist". There are some truly glorious mornings here that are perfectly described by these words!
Temecula is located in a beautiful valley, surrounded by mountains (snow capped to the north in the winter). There are abundant housing choices, ranging from attractively landscaped neighborhoods with community pools and tennis courts to golf communities or country living on acreage for horse lovers or hobbyist vintners.
EVERY DAY LIFE is so convenient with everything we need within a 5-10 mile radius; Kohl’s, Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe's, Costco, Walmart, the Promenade Temecula shopping mall with Macy's, Pottery Barn and many other shopping/dining choices, the new Temecula Public Library with breathtaking views of the valley and mountains, grocery stores, gyms, movie theaters, parks, etc.
Within a few miles of shopping, one can enjoy a country drive through TEMECULA’S WINE COUNTRY with hot air balloons floating overhead. There are excellent choices for indoor and outdoor dining. A few of my favorites:
Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy golfing, hiking, motocross riding (the Nationals were recently held at the nearby Pala Raceway , a great track open to the public where famous riders often practice), fishing and horseback riding in this exceptional, sunny climate (San Diego National Weather Service). There are over 30 manicured parks in Temecula (map of parks), including two sports parks with lit fields for nightime activities, the Temecula Duck Pond & Veterans Memorial with catch and release fishing allowed.
MEDICAL FACILITIES include Inland Valley and Rancho Springs Hospitals, as well as the impressive new Loma Linda Medical Center just to the north of Temecula and a new hospital under construction in south Temecula. There are great doctors, dentists and specialists in Temecula and nearby Murrieta.
SAFETY Temecula was recently rated the second safest city in the United States by business news website Business Insider
Temecula is also enjoyed by many as a vacation destination, which is easy to understand with the natural beauty, outstanding weather and available activities.
It is wonderful to feel like you are on vacation where you live!
