We heard about this recently, and the idea seems so simple and brilliant we can't believe no one has thought of it before. Solar shingles! DowSolar is bringing them to Colorado. They are part of your roof and protect your house the same as regular shingles, without changing your roof's sight line like old-fashioned solar panels. 
With the 300 or so days of sunlight Colorado receives each year, it makes sense to take advantage of all that energy. According to DowSolar, the shingles will pay for themselves over the life of the roof.
Currently, there are three authorized dealers in Colorado for the Powerhouse Solar Shingle: Academy Roofing, B&M Roofing of Colorado, and D&D Roofing.
With the current trend toward green building, we expect to see some homebuilders feature solar shingles in their model homes. Let us know if you see this new product around Denver, or if you decide to install some for yourself.
