By

LLoyd Carr, head football coach at U.MAccording a Michigan Daily News flash, I just received, Head Coach Lloyd Carr is retiring. He announced it to his players this afternoon when he met with them.

A press conference is scheduled for tomorrow morning at 10:00 in the Junge Champions Center on the campus of the University of Michigan.

Lloyd Carr, had been Head football coach at the University of Michigan since 1995.

He is the third winningest coach in U of M football history and has been here 13 seasons. Carr has a 121-40 record as head coach, winning 5 Big Ten Championships and one National Title Championship.

For more information you can read the Michigan Daily report.

The Detroit Fee Press also has more details of Carr's retirement.

I hope the fans of U of  M football will appreciate his great legacy and not remember him for the loss on Saturday. UM football helmet

I had the priviledge of attending his Woman Football Camp, held at the University of Michigan, two years ago. All the proceeds of the camp go to the Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of Michigan Hospitals. I caught a pass in front of Lloyd, and broke my finger. I was in a cast for the entire summer.

Lloyd Carr is a man of integrity and has been a father figure to many, many players throughout his career at the University of Michigan.

He will be missed.

God bless you, Lloyd.

Missy, I don't know much about football but it was nice to hear the proceeds go to a very worthy cause. I'm not sure breaking your finger to catch that pass was worth it but I'm sure it is a laughable memory now :)

Neal, they have someone in mind.

Carole, it was a weird summer, big halo cast, couldn't write offer and still can't play golf.

Linda, I don't think so, I think most people would love to coach here.

Missy....  it might be tough to replace his shoes.  I am not a fan of Michigan football, but I have followed Lloyd Carr for many years. Especially since I follow UW and Big 10 football....  good luck in the coming years. It will be interesting.

Gary, that is why I love rss feeds, I subscribe to the Michigan Daily and got it today, before it makes the papers tomorrow afternoon.

Jeff, Lloyd has alot of character. That will be hard to top. But, the person they have in mind is a former graduate and football player. Don't want to say too much as there are bloggers here from that state.

What Neal said....

Not a fan of the Big-10.... mainly as a way of negating the media. I do have respect for the Michigan program. They have had some good years.

There have been rumors, but I was hoping he would reconsider.  What a loss for the school and the community.  I hope he stays around in some compacity.

Let the Les Miles era begin. Carr was a good coach but unfortunately he will probably be remembered for his recent failures (1-5 vs Ohio State and 0-4 in his last 4 bowl games), instead of his 121 regular season wins and the 1997 National Championship.

MISSY: You know that I bleed Wolverine blue! I've always liked Lloyd Carr, as he just seemed like a good guy. I think that this may be a good move for him as well. He's a good coach, but he's in a tough position here. If you don't beat Ohio State and don't win bowl games, it's hard to remain the coach of Michigan. He had a great run.  Hopefully, he'll end up somewhere that he feels like he can make a difference without all of the pressure of coaching Michigan.  I think that the change may be good though, because the players seem to need someone that is a little more fired up.  Clearly, if they can get Les Miles, he'll be the next coach.  He's done great things with LSU, and I would hope that he can do the same for Michigan.

HI Adam, he was NOT pressured to leave, matter of fact they wanted him to stay, Mary Sue Coleman the President and Bill Martin the AD. This was his choice. He has been given a job offer in the AD but he is deciding what he wants to do.
