Have old and dated cabinets??

Dated cabinets

If you have the dark wood that was popular during the 1970s, the best option is to paint the wood an off-white or white, depending on the style of your house.  This will immediately make your bathroom feel bigger and more current.

I like Swiss Coffee by Benjamin Moore. Then add brushed nickel, wrought iron or oiled bronze handles or pulls.

Dated cabinets that are damaged and non repairable

If they are in a guest bathroom or smaller bathroom, consider replacing it with a pedestal sink if your budget allows for it.  The idea is to make the bathroom feel spacious and look current.  Buyers love pedestal sinks.  I find that they work well in a guest bathroom, where cabinet space is not as important.

You are very conservative. Go with a bright lacquered finish if you want to paint. Or reface the cabinets if the boxes are still good. Remove some doors and go with an open look. There is so much you can do with old cabinets other then simply painting them a dull color.

These are great, inexpensive ideas for updating when staging a home. White and off-white are completely appropriate for bathroom cabinets when staging to sell.

Thanks Gina

Erv- Most sellers want to get the job done quickly and easily.  Paint is often the easiest option for time stressed sellers.  I agree that if you have time and money to look at other options, your ideas make sense.
