That is a classic.

It's amazing how the true Victorian, 100 years old plus offers the perfect slate for a remodel that will just knock your socks off.

Those high ceilings (keep the tin seilings) came BACK in style in the 1990s except that they were called "volume ceilings".  However, the room sizes diminished to keep prices down.

Those huge kitchens are everyone's dream but hard to find in homes constructed after 1980.  Builders answered consumer demand for large kitchen with "bump-outs" and charged accordingly for the upgrade.

Those bay windows that come naturally in the true Victorian are an expensive upgrade in new construction.

Don't forget the exterior and interior TRIM.  Beautiful trims are a part of the true Victorian.

The Victorian is a truly beautiful home.

We have some beauties in Virginia and Maryland too.

They look nice.  We have a couple nicely preserved Victorians just across from our house.  Unfortunately the trim needs a lot of upkeep.

Isn't it funny how such a classic, gorgeous structure can evoke such feelings? it really is art.

Lenn ....I love those homes and wish we had builders here that were building them.  Great way to give back for Philip!

My grandmother built the first house, a Victorian, in Chevy Chase, on Jocelyn Street, in 1911.  She bought a lot on a dairy farm, framed by Military and Reno Roads!

Jay.  Fabulous.  Chevy Chase is a Mecca for Victorian Homes.

Rob.  We have a couple of local builders who specialize in the Victorian style home.

Roger.  They are unique and fabulous indeed.

Phil.  It IS art.  Anything that is pleasing to the eye is art, IMO.

#1.  True.  However, wood trim needs regular paint maintenance on any style home.  Many of the trims on Victorian and other styles are now available in vinyl.

These are beautiful. Ther is an area in queens called old astoria. We bought in queens but not there, much to my regret. This area is filled with victorian homes that belonged to the vanderbuilts and the rich of NYC. It is where they come to vacation. I had friends who bought there and were always uncoving stuff. like marble fireplaces and even tunnels that went between houses so that folks could visit friends in the snow. Your post reminded me of this thanks

Charles.  Wonderful story.  Thanks.
I showed one last weekend in Potomac that had a hidden fireplace.  I was alerted because there was a full brick chimney outside but no fireplace inside.  Ah ha!  behind the wall in the family room.
