Free Online Photo Editing - Picnik's Twin Brother

By
Education & Training with Retired Executive Director of Education at eXp Non-Licensed

In a frantic scramble last week to find a replacement for the Picnik.com closure on April 19th, I had written a post featuring 7 different FREE photo and graphic editing sites

However, some many of my online friends were hoping to actually find a replacement editor that was similar or at least closer to the same look and feel of Picnik’s site.  Is there such a site?

Well here it is!  iPiccy.com is the closest you’re going to find to Picnik.com
.  The look and feel are more similar than any other site I’ve seen.  iPiccy might actually be Picnik’s twin brother.  Once you explore the site, you’ll see what I mean.  iPiccy is 100% free, no registration required, and offers many of the same features and benefits that Picnik does and more.

Grabbing any image or photo is easy.
Just click the appropriate button and GO!  The editing options are endless and the ability to create some really cool customized graphics and images will be limited only by your creativity and of course your time and schedule. The workspace on iPiccy will be easy to navigate, especially for Picnik users, and will feel just like your old Picnik stomping grounds.

There are multiple effects with single click options at your fingertips.
These will make your photos and images really “POP” and if you use a combination of the wide variety of tools and options available, the possibilities will be endless.

In literally minutes, you’ll be able to adjust your contrast
, auto-correct colors, customize images, fix blemishes, remove red-eye, lighten and darken graphics, and even add text overlays, reflections, shadows and more.  Having the ability to utilize some really cool effects without being a graphics designer makes iPiccy one of my TOP CHOICE recommendations and a great replacement for Picnik.

Here’s a sample we just put together for a Valentine show promotion:
We added a border,
created a matting,
went with a sepia effect,
added a thick pencil sketching,
made it black and white,
re-sized it keeping constraints,
added a drop shadow border,
dropped some text at the bottom and saved to the desktop.
We then emailed it as a .jpg attachment to the event promoter.
This all took about 3 minutes from beginning to end.

Check out iPiccy.com and compare it to Picnik.  If you’ve never used Picnik.com, then you’ll have discovered a very cool free online photo and image editing site that you’re going to enjoy.  If you have used Picnik, and feel as though you’ll be losing a best friend come April, I can promise that iPiccy will make the hurt a whole lot less.  In fact, I think some of you will like iPiccy better than Picnik.  Happy creating, enjoy~

Hi Brad,

I am so excited to see your post. I am going to start using this site tonight. I tried the Google Picasa but do not really like it. This sounds like what I need to edit my pictures. Thanks so much. You are truly a lifesaver for us.

Hey Brad,

Please take a look at this post:

 http://www.bizjournals.com/boston/blog/startups/2012/02/pinterest-copyright-issues.html?ana=fbk&page=all

In the Pinterest agreement is says they can sell the photos and  (among other things)

... you represent and warrant that: (i) you either are the sole and exclusive owner of all Member Content that you make available through the Site, Application and Services or you have all rights, licenses, consents and releases that are necessary to grant to Cold Brew Labs the rights in such Member Content, as contemplated under these Terms.

I'd imagine most of the photos I've seen so far are NOT individually owned, meaning most are repoductions from what I can see.

Hi Brad, I use the copyright symbol on my photos.  Picnik allowed symbols.  These others sites are not accepting symbols.  I can get the copyright font to show up when I am typing but it will not adhere to the photo when saved.  Any thoughts on this?

Thank you.

Hi Brad,

It's funny.  I had just been on the Picnik blog - which sent me over to Google+ and several people were talking aout iPiccy.  Apparently, they took the news that Picnik was closing as an opportunity to step up their game.  The result, is that they have been adding features like crazy over the past few weeks - at least that's what I go from the thread.   There is also PicMonkey - which is being started by former Picnik employees. It's not up yet, but something to keep a lookout for!

Hi Ruthmarie - actually PicMonkey has launched, I posted my review on its launch a couple days ago.

iPiccy is still my fav and closest to picnik.com though. I still use it almost everyday. Here's another fun little creation from the site before it shuts down in April. :-)

Hi Brad, I've been using Ippiccy, but when I save the photo it is upside down when inserting into my blog.  I make the change, correct it and still is not showing correctly in my blog. Do you know what I am doing wrong? thanks

Rebecca

Hi Rebecca -  I have no idea what would be causing your image to flip on your blog, typically a .jpg or .png or .gif file stays just as it is saved in any program it's created and saved. Ipiccy is no different than picmonkey, picassa, or adobe.  I would look into the blog hosting site and try to get answers from their support staff and customer service.  Let me known if there's anything else I can do to help.  :-)
