Lawyer's Promises Hurt Home Owners

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with UtahDave.com Neighborhood Experts

Promises of hope turn to more distress. Sad story!

About 25% of home owners in Utah are under water or near under water. So when a lawyer arrives on the scene crying foul play, many listen. Some undoubtely think to themselves, "This lawyer must know what he's talking about, afterall he's still working while many of the rest of us have lost our jobs." Not realizing that this lawyers work is contingent on their involvement in his 'rescue' plan.

The lawyer made the case that he could free these under water home owners from their obligation to the bank. All they had to do was pay him to file the claim, instead of paying the bank. So the lawyer collects their money, the distressed home owners fall further behind, and for what? At the conclusion of the trial the home owners are worse off than before.

If you are under water on your home and can no longer make payments, contact me so we can discuss your real options. There are programs in place to help with your situation, but you must be careful because there are some scary scams out there. So make sure you talk to a reputable real estate professional about your situation.

Ooh it just burns me up when attorneys pry on those who are ignorant of the process. Just makes me plain sick! I just can never understand why folks don't come to US first. We are the professionals in real estate.  I mean you go to the doctor when your sick, the dentist to fix your teeth. REALTORS when its real estate related...SMH.

Say it isn't so . . . there are some lawyers that don't have ethics??  Who would have thought?!?  They should be disbarred IMHO.

What a shame that some people will do anything to make money, even prey on those least able to give it! What goes around comes around. Bad karma.

That has been one of the most frustrating issues of the current mortgage crunch.  Not only are so many homeowners upside down or in trouble with their mortgages, but that there are sharks out there, waiting to victimize them in the process.  A key red-flag to any entity offering "help". . .Are they asking for upfront fees.  If they are, look out!

There is always a low life who will take advantage of the situation. Distressed homeowners are easy prey right now. There should be more penalties for these crimes.

Unbelievable and very troubling.  As if people did not have enough to deal with, along comes a bottom feeder to take advantage of them.

Standard scam in all areas.  Lawyers or not, there are many doing this scam.  It's always best to educate the home owners with all the options available to them.

Hi Dave,

Scammers are everywhere.

Although an attorney is supposed to be honest, they can pull a scam just as easily as the next guy.

The one out of California got some 6 million dollars from folks all across the country!

Hi Dave,

Thanks for writing this post. Maybe enough consumers will get to read it and not fall for any house scam without speaking with a Realtor first.

Consider however that the banks who have boo booed against people can use a good lawyer that can find it....Then it makes sense...Other than that, desperate times brings on desperate measures. Good discussion
