Phoenix Open - In Full Swing

The metro Phoenix area, specifically Scottsdale, AZ is abuzz.  The Phoenix Open is in full swing and hoarse spectators are yelling get in the hole!”   This event grows over the top every year.  To put it into perspective for those of you who are not trying to get to appointments or enjoy a leisurely meal in this fan-packed town (you already have perspective),  in 2011 the attendance for Wednesday (Pro-Am day) was 15,003, this past Wednesday, with blue skies and 70 degree temperatures,  49,735 fans wedged their way in.  Let’s hazard to say that the Saturday attendance will tap in at over half a million.  That’s enough spectator love to give the most unflappable player the yips.  Coined The Greatest Show on Grass, the course fills to a beer buzzed brim with true golf fans, hackers, duffers, chili dippers, and chunking choppers hoping to see an historical condor, eagle or birdie and then it overflows with high heeled, short shorted ladies, cigar smoking gents and folks who’ve never picked up an iron in their life and I don’t mean the one you use on clothes, turning the impeccable TPC course into a dog track by the end of the week.  This is professional golf’s biggest party and the most heavily attended golf tournament (excluding the majors) in the world. There’s more than one dance floor at TPC Scottsdale, the Birds Nest is set up to entertain the throes with this year’s headliner’s Wil.i.am (of Black Eyed Peas fame) and the Goo Goo Dolls.  If you haven’t been, what are you waiting for?  Just be sure and secure accommodations by November or you’ll be sleeping in your car.

Sheryl, I am enjoying the Phoenix open. I would love to play that course some day.
