Selling your Maryland Home: let the sunshine in!

Let the sunshine in!

What a gorgeous day it was in Central Maryland. Temps in the low 50s and a picture-perfect cloudless blue sky ... the kind of weather that makes everything look so much nicer and friendlier. When selling your Maryland home you've got to take advantage of it! Let the
sunshine in!

The two homes I previewed for a relocation client today did not do that. The blinds were down and shut, the drapes drawn and I had to turn on all the lights. There I was with a skip in my step and a smile on my face (gorgeous weather will do that to you) which quickly turned into a frown upon entering (gloomy homes will do that to you).

A dark house does not exactly scream "Welcome Home", it does not make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. What it will do, however, is make you wonder immediately: What is wrong with it?? Are the windows drafty? The view ugly? The yard trashed? These are not the kind of questions you want a potential buyer to ponder!

So, when selling your home in Central Maryland - pull up the blinds, open the curtains and let the sunshine in! Bright and airy keeps the smile on people's faces. It makes buyers feel welcome and it makes them linger, take in the details and admire the features - prerequisites to actually selling your home!

Great advice.  You're right no one wants a dark house.  Open blinds and turn on lights and lamps.

Really good advice, Andrea.  I don't think sellers realize the value of light.  It makes everything look different when natural light flows through the windows.  Good advice to MD sellers! (And VA and beyond)  8-)

Dear Andrea - There is nothing that makes a "Home" feel like "Hom" than to let the "Sun Shine In"!!  One of the 1st things I do when I come home myself.  I does the soul good, no matter which season we are in :).  I think security causes people to close them while away for work, etc.....  Great Advice!!  <3

Thank you Tammy - and it's so simple, too!

Thank you Mike - everything just looks nicer & friendlier with some natural light! It can make a huge difference in how the house shows!

Thank you Pam - Sunshine always makes me happy, it truly is soul-food. I understand the concerns but having everything down and shut is just not helpful in showcasing the house (and selling it!)
