The Prince of Privilege and the Rest of the Story

By

Here is the rest of the story I began the other day with the Prince of Privilege and his liberation from the sad situation he and his sisters were living in.  He had lost his human to a horrific auto and truck accident and was living with his human’s mother who did want to provide a good safe home to him but she herself was in the middle of awful circumstances.

The day we met Frosty, Sabrina and Zoe was cold and damp…a Sunday…sometime in late October…maybe early November six years ago. At that time they had been living outside in all weather for about a year in 6x10 chain link fenced enclosures after having had an exquisitely pampered life indoors with their human.

Their small faces were unhappy and resigned. We packed them into the car and they smelled so badly that we called a groomer friend of ours who was closed for the day and asked if we could come use her facilities to clean these rescues up. This woman has a heart bigger than her 5’2” frame where dogs are concerned and she told us to come right over. Once there, she determined the only way to give the dogs relief was to give them each puppy cuts. The mats were pulling their skin and the twigs and filth were too deeply entwined in the fur. Brenda shaved them, I bathed them and Leslie kept them calm while drying them.

Now, we could see their faces clearly and clearly they were frightened of the new circumstances. Happily, not for long. It only took a couple of days with consistent good food, warm and dry bedding and playful interaction for their faces to relax and happiness to take over.

A few years later the lady who had been keeping them after her daughter died saw them while we were walking them down the road. Her husband who had been so ill had passed away and she was on her way to the cemetery to visit their graves. She stopped to see the dogs and was so happy to see how well cared for and well adjusted they were. She told us she was very happy with her decision to have us take them and she would be talking with her daughter to reassure her that her precious pets were in good hands. As far as Frosty, Sabrina and Zoe were concerned…they were glad to see the lady and went up to her wiggling and wagging but they knew their home was with us.

There’s nothing like a happy ending, is there?

Love a happy ending!  If only there were enough new homes to go around for all the pets who need them ..

I love happy endings but their story continues.  They have been blessed with a wonderful home and you have been blessed with 3 lovely dogs.  Look forward to more doggy tails and tales.

Mona - wow, it is a photo poem. How different it is here, than what I remember. Back when I was young, my in-laws lived in a single family home in a village, and they always had a dog.

The dog never was allowed inside a home, even when it was bitter cold. he had his own small cabin, and when it was very cold, could go to a small barn.

There was no such food as dog food, and there was no such thinkg that you do not give dogs chicken bones. he loved any bones.

What he did not eat (nobody ever tried to give him) were salads, and I was stunned to see dogs here eating what people eat, including salads.

And there were no those cute dogs, that you can put in a purse. Dogs had a duty to protect, and they were guarding the property, and would attack anyone coming close....

It was a different dog's life.

Mona,  They are just precious.  It is amazing how you can see happiness on a dogs face as well as sadness.  Your crew looks so happy now.

Dianne, this is why a good healthy spay/neuter program is so important in communities...there aren't enough good homes to go around.

Connie, What a great title for a post...Doggie Tails and Tales.

Jon, your comments are always thought provoking.  The United States is full of different behaviors from the rest of the world, but I have to say I'm proud that there are so many people considering their dogs and cats to be part of the family household.  Far more odd to me is to go into the shampoo aisle of the grocery store and wonder why on earth Americans need the choice of hundreds of "hair products"!  Thank you so much for your perspective...our guys would probably not touch a salad.  Have a wonderful weekend.

Deborah, Zoe continues to be the least self assured of the trio but she is also the youngest.  She was only 6 months old when her life changed.  She is a loving little dog though.

Will, thank you but there are people out there doing so much more than we do.  It takes all of us to make a real difference.

Ahhh Leslie, we have often wondered about the design flaw with these dogs.  If their hair would only grow and not tangle or knot, right?

Belinda, you have your dog and know as well as I do...everything with a soul also can show expression. Have a great weekend, hope the snow isn't hammering you too badly.  That's always fun trying to let the dogs take care of uhmmm "business" in many inches of snow.

Adorable! How someone takes care of animals is such a measure of a person - and you and Leslie are giants!  Those pups are so very lucky...and how could you not just love those little faces!

Mona - in any case, dogs who have homes in US live better than homeless people. Please, do not think that I do not understand that the way people treat animals tells a lot about people

Hi Mona, This ia wonderful story and I had no doubt that it would turn out just as it should. The little ones know a great deal more than others think. Though mine are awaiting me at the Rainbow Bridge, I still talk to them often and could never forget how wonderful their perfect love was for me.

Those little guys were a great addition to the household Karen...and luckily they don't eat much!

Jon, Jon, Jon...I read your profile some time ago and have no doubt that the welfare of pets tells you a great deal about the measure of people.  I think you talked about working with your family and one of your kids has a couple of stress relieving dogs?  I think you and I are on the same wavelength on this subject.

William, I kind of thought these "littles" would be your kind of dogs lol.
