I'm Back, with BACK TO BACK - I'VE GOT YOUR YOUR BACK, FRIDAY STORIES

Last Friday I was doing a walk through in a short sale and I foolishly parked across the street of the house we were checking on.

Why foolish?

I was greeted by a large dog that came up aggressively to my passenger window- a Doberman that was frothing at the mouth to be exact!  He was frantically trying to get into the house on the side of the street that I parked.

I waited for him to go around the side of the house before I opened the door and crossed the street with my back turned to the dog. (not exactly the smartest thing I have done lately!)

As I neared the top of the driveway to open up the house we were checking on my buyer all of a sudden yelled, "JUMP INTO THE BACK OF THE TRUCK!!!"  and Tom moved forward to protect me.  The frothing Doberman stopped five feet short of saying "hello" to me!

I never opened a lockbox so fast in my life as Tom(my buyer) had my back looking out for a return visit from the Doberman.  Tom immediately called animal control as the neighborhood elementary school was about to let out and children would be walking past the house with this aggressive dog still on the loose.

I still had a problem when we were finished of how to get back to my truck without the dog paying me a return visit.  That was solved with the arrival of animal control!!!

THANKS, TOM FOR HAVING MY BACK!!!

Yesterday I visited the courthouse and then the county records building to do deed research for an incredible property that we just re-listed.  It is almost 50 acres of wooded land with a stream that has a 2500 square foot ranch house with outbuildings located at 4125 North 300 West in West Lafayette, Indiana.

I went to pay for the deed copies in the recorders office and handed the staff member a $20 bill.  There was a question about one of the deeds so they suggested I go next door to the auditor's office and discuss the matter with them.  I left the $20 bill with the staff member and she said to come back and pay her when I received the information I needed about the deed copies next door.

It turned out I needed two more deed copies so I went back to the recorder's office and paid another staff member the $12 they needed in cash and then walked away.

I met the original staff member in the hallway returning from break and she asked me if I received my change back from the $20 bill I gave her.

I HAD FORGOTTEN I HAD ALREADY PAID HER before I went next door to the auditor's office and the $20 bill was still laying on the counter by her workstation!

I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THE $20!!!!

Thank you Tippecanoe County Recorder's Office you sure had MY BACK!!!!

Ginkgo Biloba anyone????

Bruce - Those types of experiences seem to come in cycles with me.  And then the clouds part, and the world seems to right iself once again:-)  I hope things get better!  The encounter with the dog could have gone so much worse than it actually did!

Hi Myrl!  I am leaning to be more careful with strange dogs!  Just this evening I was walking the propery line with a client and a LARGE dog came running up to "greet" us.  I did not turn my back on him.  You can teach an old HUMAN new tricks!

Kathleen, I love dogs and we get along very well, but I think Mr. Doberman did not have friendly intentions when he rushed me from behind across the street!  ^_~

Always nice when people are honest like that! As for the dog, that would have scared the hell out of me!

Bruce, that would have been FRIGHTENING!     I am not a dog person anyway and when faced with one in a home that I am unaware there will be one, I always get nervous!    Glad you were ok!

Joan, it sure was!  When my investor buddy shouted and I saw him running at me I jumped in the back of his pickup in record time!  Tom had my back, for sure!

Hi Bruce,

Oh the perils we face as Realtors, including dogs! I think I would have had a heart attack if I had encountered that Doberman. I know a lot of people think they make great pets but I never had a good feeling about them and to experience what you experienced --- well, I probably wouldn't be here right now writing this comment on your post!

Thank God someone had your back!!!

And the courthouse episode was another great story too. It really does pay to watch someone's back and I would bet you do that naturally for others and that's why when you need it the most, it comes back to you.

If I could ever have your back, you can count on the fact that I'd be there.

Patricia, it is nice to know that there are people out there who will watch over you when you make a mistake or become forgetful!  Yes, I do believe that you do help your friends and look after them.  It is very evident with your friend from the Boston Marathon tragedy!!!

Bruce, that is a scary story about the frothing Doberman.  That was very smart thinking of you and your buyer to realize about the schoolchildren.

Regarding your $20 refund - we once had an attorney make a mistake at the closing and overpay us by approximately $2,000.  It was a dry closing so they mailed us our check.  We didn't deposit it for three weeks so no one (including us) ever caught the error for three weeks.  We kindly refunded the difference.

Lisa, I was certainly foolish to turn my back on him and walk away.  Luckily my investor had my back when he charged the dog a few steps which caused the Doberman to back off just enough so I could jump in the back of his pick up truck.  Yes, it is amazing how we can forget or make some errors when it comes to keeping track of money or accounts!

Shanna, I knew that dog was bad news, and yet I was still stupid enough to turn my back on it!  It is always a pleasure to meet honest people-especially in public service!
