5 New Trends For 2012! Straight From the Las Vegas Design Market!

Even though the Vegas Market was overwhelming at times with it's sheer volume of beautiful decor ideas, I did spot a few trends that will influence some of my Property Styling this year.

  • The new colours; Tangerine and iced teal are huge! They're in every thing from glassware to art and accessories! I even wore it one day! Didn't know when I packed it was one of the new hot colours, I must be psycho psychic!tangerine

  • Horses! They're everywhere! Art, accessories, even lamps! Priscilla Presley's store had full sized horse lamps, in various colours and textures, with the shade over the head. They wouldn't let us take pix, but you know it isn't going to be a common item in most homes...

  • Bling! From sequined bed width pillows to crystal button tufted sofas and headboards, bling was in every store! I was in Magpie heaven!crystal headboard

  • Circles! The shape of the year; incorporated into fabric , metals, lamp shades and art, circles are all over the place, whether polka dots or wood grain.

  • Stick screens. These screens were everywhere, utilizing straight or wavy, these screens came in a variety of shades and heights, perfect for dividing a room or filling a space behind furniture! Very simple to make, I'll be posting a 'how to' in the near future!screenscreen

What an eye opening experience and opportunity to see what's going to be hot this year.

There's another market there in August, anyone interested?

Magpies Unite!  Love the rough-sawn tree "circles" on the wall.  I wonder if I should invest in some equine art?

Peg***A featured Girl!!!   Woohoo! Terrific post--doncha LOVE what you do???  Well, it shows, missy. I'm excited to incorporate some of these ideas in helping my clients and maybe adding some new "pop" to my own place.

I'm assuming that the wardrobe piece of yours were the shoes and not the pillows, right?  Just kiddin'. I think that the twig screen idea could easily work out here in Cabin-Land. And maybe the horsey stuff, too! (But, being selective).

Sandy, I think orange is okay in small doses, or pops of colour. Not being an orange fan myself I know what I choose to use will be strategic.

Go Gabe! I love surprising people! I have learned so many things here on AR, I know I can surprise people with my knowledge!

Magpies Unite! What a great name for a group Julie! lol The wall hanging wasn't the only wood thing they were doing. cross cut pieces of sapling, so small tree rings joined together side by side to make coffee/end table cubes, very striking. A s far as equine art, it all depends on the home and decor...

Michael, everything comes back after a time. But the thing with trends are they either take off or fall flat. We shall see where these 5 go...

Hi Peg, So you get to preview the new design trends?  That sounds like fun and helps keep you at the cutting-edge of what's hot and not.  I like the orange and teal.  Congrats on your Feature.

Gaylefriend*snap*, what a great life I have! Helping people, decorating with beautiful things, getting jobs done and then communicating with awesome folks! What's not to like!?!

Benjamin, since a lot of the people replying here are Home Stagers or Property Stylists, we talk about decor all the time! But that doesn't mean you can't wow your clients, like Gabe said, and tell them about some new decor trends!

LOLloyd, Thanx! I wasn't thinking about a feature when I wrote this, but am very excited to receive one! I was just going over my photos and thought I'd share! It was so great to be able to see the Las Vegas Market. I liked that better than any smoky old casino any day!

Peg:

I love tangerine and teal.  Tangerine is a color that isn't used very often in home staging, except for an occasional piece.

I think my favorite new trend is the splash of teal and tangerine colors in items!

Lori, It was incredible! I was literally running around looking at stuff, but my feet gave out after a few hours!

Evelyn, I know! That's why I said I would use strategic pops of colour, and it can be tempered by the teal... Not being an orange fan, my pops will be small. :D

It is, of course, helping that those very bright, cheery colors are showing up in the dead of winter! Making me think of sunny days! :)

Valerie, they are cheery aren't they? We haven't had a lot of snow this year, so it doesn't seem that bad... Have a great week!

Hi, Peg, LOVE the tangerine and teal, which I've seen everywhere for a couple of months now, the stick screens, and the tufted "blinged" headboards -- I'm putting a tufted ivory headboard in a model home next week, but minus any bling. How about BIRDS -- I've seen them everywhere, too, and have bought pillows with birds, pictures with birds, and even seen some beautiful bedding and towels featuring birds. Keeping fingers crossed the bird theme will go over well in an active-adult home I'm doing!

Amy, I never saw any bird motifs, just horses. I like bird things too, I'm sure whatever you're using will look fabulous, trend or no! :D

I just found a bundle of sticks at a thrift store, so will be able to make my screen! I'm so excited, I'll be making a how-to post...
