We have function in our site that will send automated updates to those that want them as an added benefit to our prospective clients to help them be the first to know when a price has been reduced or a new listing comes on the market in their price range.
To get the updates a visitor to our site is asked for their email address. It is surprising to me how many people view this as an invasion of their privacy. We get a Mickey Mouse or other celebrity sign ups and that is not so bad. The people that choose profane and rude sign up names and fictitious email addresses must think they are somehow getting even with us for asking? How dare we ask that they share their email! Well, I forgive them for their ignorance. I do sometimes wonder if these same people when asking for information of a Realtor would have this exchange:
Customer: I would like to know what the current real estate market conditions in Victor Idaho are. Can you help me understand the market?
Realtor: Sure, I would be glad to help. What is your name and email address?
Customer: F*%$ Y*^ and you can email me at F*%$@Y*^.com
Realtor: I would be glad for you to use my web site to look into the listings in our area. When you really need a professional I suggest you come back and introduce yourself again. It may be a little awkward for you when you tell me you have been on my site for the past year and I do not see your name and email. I may ask you if you are Mickey Mouse or………………
