The House Rules Studies Subcommittee has endorsed and sent to the full House Rules Committee HJR 131 to require VDOT to conduct a feasibility study of extending Route 28 to Maryland.

In testifying in support of this legislation sponsored by Delegate Randy Minchew, the Alliance noted that its 2011 survey of area transportation professionals found that a new Potomac River crossing ranked as the single most effective multi-modal investment the region could make to improve mobility and reduce congestion.*

The House Rules Committee next meets at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 7th.

This is an extremely encouraging development in that this subcommittee seldom approves study resolutions. However, opposition from the usual obstructionist groups is expected to continue to be intense.
