"Don't Squeeze the Charmin"

By
Real Estate Agent with Simply Vegas Real Estate
Dick Wilson, known as Mr. Whipple, died at a young age of 91 this past Monday.  He spent 21 years protecting the Charmin toilet paper from crazy housewives who wanted to squeeze it!

Read the article in the Review Journal here

He retired in 1985 and was replaced by the cartoon bears.  Wilson said the he was still recognized as Mr. Whipple long after he retired. He did come back  for a guest appearance in 1999.

According to friends and family, he was delightful and funny, until the very end.  Something that is unknown to most people about Dick Wilson is that he was a very talented painter.

I was also surprised to learn that in the 1990's, he lived right here in Henderson, NV.  Many celebrities make Henderson their home because it is a great place to live. Check out my previous blog Las Vegas--Living with the Stars

So, in honor of Dick Wilson, or should I say, Mr. Whipple, we should all go out and squeeze the Charmin!

Very nice post.  Those were very memorable commercials.  How many times do you see a commercial and you have no idea what they are promoting.  Mr. Whipple left you with no doubts what the advertisement was about.

Vicky: I agree, you always knew when Mr. Whipple showed up, what the commercial was advertising.  Some commercials are very confusing!

Roberta, some of the unsung heroes are the quiet types, and we remember Dick Wilson more as the Don't Squeeze the Charmin man rather than other roles he played. You are quite the detective in digging out his Henderson and his painting roots. We all have a story to tell if people will listen.

Have yourself a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Roberta, I had no idea that Mr. Whipple died. Thanks for posting this. My newspaper makes weird choices in the news it decides to report. For example, the front page today was all about the home loan freeze while it buried the story on page 11 that a guy shot 8 people and then himself in an Omaha mall.

Elizabeth:  Newspapers sometimes are very strange.  I can't believe that they buried the story about the Omaha shooting!
