The Palmdale Playhouse will hold open auditions for the upcoming Enhanced Readers Theatre “The Triangle Factory Fire Project” on Friday, February 10 at 6 pm, and on Saturday, February 11 at 10 am at the Palmdale Playhouse, 38334 10th Street East in Palmdale.
Roles are available for five men and four females each playing multiple parts. Performers should be prepared to read sides from the scripts, which will be provided at the audition.
Saturday, March 25, 1911, 4:45 pm. In the Triangle Waist Factory off downtown Manhattan’s Washington Square – where 500 immigrant workers toil fourteen-hour days making lady’s dresses – a cigarette is tossed into a bin of fabric scraps. Despite desperate efforts, flames sweep through floors 8-10. Panic-stricken workers run in all directions. On the ninth floor, some make it to the fire escape, only to have it collapse beneath their weight. Dozens leap from windows to their deaths. In the space of twenty-eight minutes, the fire is under control, but 146 people, mainly young immigrant girls, have died. The Triangle Factory Fire Project uses eyewitness accounts and other archival material to create a dramatic moment-by-moment account of this historic fire and the social upheaval that followed.
The drama will be directed by M. Steven Felty. Performances will be Saturday, March 24 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, March 25 at 2 pm.
