Here’s what’s happening around Silverton this week: February 7 – 14

Silverton Business Group

The group meets every Wednesday morning from 8 to 9 am at Silverton Inn & Suites. February leaders are Bonnie Lester & Hannah Lambert from Whimsy etc. Boutique. Bonnie & Hannah will have a mystery speaker on February 8.

February Forum Lunch
Friday, February 10, 11:45 – 1:00 – Join the Chamber for our annual Presidents Luncheon as we honor Past Presidents of the Silverton Chamber of Commerce. Our speaker this month is Representative Vic Gilliam. Lunch takes place in the Silverton Hospital conference room above the Birth Center. Cost is $10, with a reservation by Wednesday, February 8. Please make your reservation so we will have an accurate count for lunch.

Silverton’s 41st Annual First Citizen Banquet “We Treasure Our Volunteers”
Silverton’s First Citizen Banquet is set for Saturday, February 11 starting at 5:30 pm. Tickets are $35 per person and may be purchased at the Silverton Chamber of Commerce, 426 S. Water Street. Tickets are available now. Tickets may also be purchased by phone with a credit card (503-873-5615) and picked up at will-call at the event. We must give the Oregon Garden a count on Wednesday, February 8 so would appreciate your purchases by then. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Reservations may be made for tables of 8. If necessary a table may be set for 9 or 10, however, this creates a very crowded situation and MUST be arranged prior to the event. Please be aware that we are unable to accommodate changes in table settings the night of the event.

It's Homer Davenport Time Folks!
The preparations have begun for our 2012 festival and you better believe, it's going to be the best yet! There are numerous volunteers who spend tons of hours throughout the year making this festival one of the best in the Willamette Valley. To them we offer great thanks! If you volunteered last year and are sticking with it again in 2012, you are one of the best!

The 2012 Homer Davenport Community Festival is currently seeking two of the most important things to every great festival, volunteers and sponsorships! Without them, we could not move forward! If you are interested in volunteering we have a spot for you! Lunch and Learn – Art of Business, Business of Art 
Friday February 10, 12:00-12:30 - Bring your lunch and join local artists and business people for this series of discussions focusing on art for use in business applications like logos, brochures, and promotional literature, and turning your art into a business with the use of websites, marketing and social media. Illustration and Design 
Tuesdays February 14 – March 20 4:00-5:30pm - Don’t miss this brand new class for kids aged 9-13 with graphic artist Elyse McGowan. Learn how to design a book or CD cover, or illustrate popular stories. Instructor Elyse McGowan will cover various illustration techniques like stippling and paper tearing with an emphasis on drawing style vs just drawing. The Park House Preschool Open House 
Friday February 17th 3:00-5:00 317 Coolidge St in Silverton’s Coolidge-McClaine Park - 
Silverton Arts Association is proud to announce the opening of The Park House Preschool! Join us for an Open House to meet teacher Margaret Jones, check out the newly transformed classroom, enjoy refreshments and activities, and learn about the Reggio curriculum model. The Park House Preschool opens March 5th, and is currently accepting applications for the March 5-June 14, 2012 partial year and for the 2012-2013 school year. Hope to see you there!

Saturday March 3rd 2:00-4:30 - Get your hands dirty! Jason Laney of Samhain Pottery encourages students of all abilities to make anything they want in this fun workshop. The only limit is your imagination! Participants can create hand built cups, bowls, and plates suitable for giving, and choose from 5 different glazes to make your work food-safe, microwaveable, and dishwasher-safe. 

Oil Pastels with Ann Altman
Sunday March 4th 1:00-3:30 - For beginners and seasoned artists alike, this workshop is a joyous exploration of color. Exercises will highlight how one can manipulate colors for maximum artistic effect. Students will use oil pastels while learning principles of color which can be applied with any medium.

Tuesday, February 14th -Valentine's Day Dinner - Grab that special someone or a group of friends for a lovely dinner on the 14th. Three course meal featuring a Valentine's favorite... chocolate! Each course showcases chocolate in a delicious and unique way. On February 11th, at 1 p.m. at The Oregon Garden, Kris Wetherbee will demonstrate techniques on Herbaceous Cooking. Come discover the magic of culinary herbs as Kris Wetherbee imparts her passion and knowledge on using herbs from garden to table. Wetherbee will share her top tips for growing herbs along with how to store fresh herbs and prepare them for cooking. Kids learn Origami at the Garden! 
Saturday, Feb. 11th at 10am, origami instructor Yuki will bring her origami paper and expertise to The Oregon Garden. Valentine’s Day Gifts at The Chocolate Box. 
We are pleased to let you know that for the first time, The Chocolate Box will be featuring fresh large hand dipped chocolate with white chocolate drizzle covered strawberries for Valentine’s week. We will be featuring them in gift boxes and/or by the piece. But as strawberries are so fragile and must be eaten soon after purchase, we are taking orders and will have them available for pick up at The Chocolate Box on Monday and Tuesday, February 12 and 13, only. All orders must be placed by telephone, email and/or in person no later than February 7 so that we can make sure that we purchase sufficient amounts to accommodate your needs. Tuesday, February 14 5:30 – 8:30 Creekside Grill in Silverton offers sweethearts a romantic four course dinner and an unforgettable performance by Bre Gregg and Mark Simon!

We will be reopening for normal business hours on February 8th. In addition, we are offering a special Valentine's Day menu. We will be open Tuesday, February 14th and will be serving this specially prepared menu. We will however have limited selections available the rest of the week as a special menu because we realize that not everyone can get out for a mid-week romantic dinner.
