Today, I saw a news story about a little girl who averted being abducted by a man recently released from prison. The man struck up a conversation with the girl in a store and then scooped her up and headed out. Now this could have had a very tragic ending if the child had not been taught by her parents and her school to make lots of noise... kick, scream, do whatever to attract attention. I've even heard the suggestion that we should teach children to yell, "This is not my dad!" I'm sure that would get my attention! It's a sad commentary that we have to teach our young children ways to avoid abduction, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Please teach your children. Somebody taught this little one, and she lived to tell about it.

Margo - My mother taught me that so well that when a neighbor asked me if I wanted to get into their car to go for ice cream when I was five, I turned and ran home screaming - they came over to ask what happened......he was a professor on the university and they had been neighbors for years.......

Margo - it is a sad commentary but it has to be done. I think abductions happened when we were kids too but it wasn't publicized as much as today.
