Black Friday - Is It Worth It?

By
Services for Real Estate Pros

crowdsWith temps in the low to mid-40's tonight and crowds already forming at 7 p.m., my husband and youngest son (38 years old and forever the eternal child) loaded the car with folding chairs and sleeping bags, dressed in layers of their warmest clothes and headed out to join the crowds @ Best Buy.  Youngest son is set on buying his sister and brother-in-law a computer for Christmas and Best Buy is offering the chance to buy them in a package of computer, 17 inch monitor, and printer for $200 IF you are one of the first in line @ 3 a.m.

Hubby has to be at work @ 5 a.m. so I'm on duty @ 4 a.m.!  These 2 guys of mine are insane, in my opinion!  I'm insane to agree to relief duty @ 4 a.m.!   I've never been one to join in on "Black Friday" but what we won't do for our kids!  I just hope Rob gets the computer!  We'll know this time tomorrow whether this is all worth it!

Good luck with that!

I was in complete shock when I saw that some stores were open at 4am. And now I see that Best Buy is open at 3am? I fold.

Not open @ 3a.m. but you have to be in line @ 3a.m. to get the voucher to purchase the computer at this price.  Store opens @ 5a.m.  Some of the stores here are opening @ midnight!

My hubbie just left for work (he's tech manager at CompUSA)...they're open from 9-12....then they reopen at 5am....but he goes in tomorrow from 1-9. Do I think it's worth it? I wouldn't be in line....that's for sure. Gary got a call at 6pm telling him people were lined up around the corner already. geez. Hope you had a nice holiday Mary....and hope your son gets the pc!

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving and it sets the mood (economy-wise) for the rest of the shopping time before Christmas.  I think the stores want to end up in the 'black' as opposed to the 'red' money-wise.

Forget it. My friend was going to go down to get in line for a bargain as well, but then decided it just wasn't worth the savings to freeze his buns off. I hope he gets his pc for his efforts. -Charles

Well, you've got to be in it to win it. And if you and your son are successful in achieving the goal, then it was be worth it.

Last night as I watched the commercials stating that the stores would be opening at 4AM I laughed at the poor souls who would be there.  I can really appreciate a bargain, but I no longer go shopping on black Friday.  I'd rather spend the time snuggling with the kiddies at home.  I hope your son got the PC!

Mary, I did this whole thing...ONCE, and don't ever plan on doing it again.  In my opinion there aren't bargains out there that you can't get in some way at some other time.  I do certainly hope for your success, however, and all those other people sleeping, standing, sitting in the cold waiting for the doors to open!

Before long, stores will open at 7 p.m. Thanksgiving evening. Can you say, "turkey to go?" I enjoyed a good night sleep last night after cooking all day for 21 people. I woke up at about 8. No black Friday for me!

Driving home last night at 7:00 I noticed people already lined up outside Best Buy. Unless I am getting a $5000 tv for $250, I think I will avoid that mess!

Wow Mary, that is a great price for computers.  I think I would be encouraged to stand in line too.  Maybe next year.

So did he get his 2 computers?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Mary, always wondered who would do such a thing and now I actually know someone who did that. It's definitely not for me but I must say I am curious .... did they get it?

Mary, isn't it amazing what people will do for a "deal."  My daughter told me that she had done that before, and maybe they had 8-10 of the advertised item. Not for me...........I'll shop online. :-)

So??? Was it a successful trip?
