Getting My Social Media Ducks in a Row...
Social Media. If many of you are like me, you are busy, engaged in the task of killing something and dragging it home. Yes, there are the benefits of meeting folks face-to-face to establish rapport. There there is the virtual side of marketing - blogging, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, your website -- on and on adnausium!
My question to the masses is to what benefit? It is difficult enough to spend an hour here in ActiveRain much less spend time on all the other social media sites. While I understand that it is important for organically moving you up organically in the search engines, I often wonder if this is a ploy by the search engines to get you to spend/waste time socializing virtually. My Gawd!!! I have "friends" I have never met in person and really don't even know.
Lets face it. Maybe old fogies like me don't get it or are not willing to grasp the concept of texting someone in the next room. What ever happened to getting off your kiester, opening the door and engaging in a face-to-face conversation? Must we be constantly plugged into some mobile device?
For now, as a business owner, I reckon that this is the game we must play in order to generate business and get noticed. Whether it will be for the better only time will tell.

Michael, your two cents is worth a lot....it pays alot to one's business to drop flowers off, invite for coffee, catch up with sellers new lives and just do it!! There is no replacement for it! We need to make the time...

Michael, We see all around that being "available" all the time is the new "norm" and it's not just with the teenages or 20 somethings. A 70ish woman said to us the other day ~ "You can text me in the middle of the night because I am always just steps away from my Iphone"!

Michael, I think there's a lot of tradeoffs, and a wide difference in generational approaches. If we only want to do business with people our own age, face to face will get it done. If we want the young pups for clients, well their world is digital and we'd better be ready to play there if we want their attention.

I'm shocked you have never stopped by for a face to face! We've been here for 15 years! However, should I visit my brother in Nashville, you might just see me at your door!

Sir Michael you can get up off your kiester and come see me anytime. I believe that tis the thing we are so far apart from the ones we interact with we just can't drive or walk to see the other person

Good morning Michael,
It's become the way for many to communicate a thought, ask a question (just want a quick answer) or answer a question. It's instant gratification..it does not replace face to face it only enhances the relationship and opens up many more opportunities. Once embraced you can make the decision how much you want to engage..it's up to you to reach your own comfort level :).

Michael, When I went to school the most advanced equipment we had were two electric typewriters out of about 30 manual ones. The fight was on to get these great new machines. Look at what we do now. Is it better?? I don't know but we sure can "reach" more people today with social media.

Michael- I love the face to face or even a phone call. I do have a Realtor with whom I work who is strictly into texting. And, if that's their game, I'll play it.

Nose to nose, or pick-up the phone is still my preferred form of communication. I've not given into the texting thing yet, don't even have a smart phone. The pressure is on, and I know I'll have to make a change soon.
Have an Awesome day!

You can not beat face to face communications.
Until you meet face to face, you should stay in contact with all of your referral sources and your past clients on Facebook. A Facebook page is fine for links to all of your blog posts.

Michael, Yes we have to keep up with this ever changing way to bring in business. Yet nothing beats that face to face connection. I just taught my 91 year old uncle how to text yesterday....he wants to keep up. I guess all this stuff will keep us young like him!

With 87% of buyers look for their new home on the internet before ever calling a Realtor, agents MUST have a web presence which includes all the social media forums.
While I don't know the stats for other industries, I'm pretty certain that the number is quite high ass well.
