mall I know that some of you will be spending time at your local mall shopping for just the right present for someone in your life.  This shopping takes time, it is extremely hard work and you GET HUNGRY.  Everywhere you look is another restaurant, another kiosk, the enticing smells, the sights - you have to eat now !

Don't let all this holiday spirit go to your head - or should I say your waistline.  There are good healthy choices to make even in the fast food realm. Take note that the calorie count listed is for ONE item. Three Junior sandwiches are three times the calories. No excuses accepted!

Just to really ruin this for you - stride out between stores and don't take the escalator or elevator. Work it!!!!

Dan- Trying is much better that not trying at all - I am sure that  you will find good  choices, if you plan it out.  It is easier to just grab whatever and run.

Kathleen -- good suggestions.  I would suggests eat a good breakfast, bring a snack and drink a lot of water.

You said it to Dan--have a plan.

Aziz - I do not drink enough water myself - that is something I need to do better on.

Kathleen -- I am doing a alternative heath series blog and will probably cover drinking water tomorrow.  If you get a chance check out Part 1.  I typically drink a  glass of water an hour before I eat -- doing that also helps with filling the belly before eating

This was great!  Thank you!  There are just days when I don't plan to be out and about all day, and get stuck without a healthy snack or lunch-  it's great to see there are some options out there!

Aziz - Drinking warm water before you eat raises your internal temp and lessens the stuffing yourself trend.  I also eat very slowly and if everyone else is done in a restaurant - I pack mine up to go. Another meal for another day.

Sandi - There are quite a few eateries listed so there are some options out there for us - eating on the go is the worst, but we can improve it a bit.

Hi Kathleen,

Great list of healthy alternatives, I prefer planning ahead by having healthy snacks in the car so I don't get stuck eating something I might regret. :)

Kathleen, thanks for the great information.  I'm the world's worst when I go to the mall.  The fast food kiosks just call my name and I go running!  To heck with those salads though, it looks like they are even worse calorie-wise!

Charlene - You do need calories - you just need to chose the foods that give you the most nutrition for the calories.

Running to the fast food kiosks, however, does not count as exercise.
