When a bright light is extinguished...

By
Real Estate Sales Representative with RE/MAX Preferred RS152252A

Last night brought news that Whitney Houston has died.  Whitney was only 48 years old.

I spent a good bit of time last night perusing YouTube and listening once again to that magic voice sing beautiful songs.  Such a bright and beautiful woman with a magically angelic voice; gone at such a young age.  I'm not sure if her addiction killed her or her smoking, I had recently read she had emphysema.  Whichever, it's a sad commentary on society that there are people on Facebook debating the merit of mourning her loss because she was an addict.  Anytime a bright light gets extinguished too soon or even at an advanced age, the world is the worse for the loss.  Bobby Brown or not, drug abuse or not, Whitney's smile, her lovely face and that voice are a loss.

This Sunday morning, I pray that she's at peace, at last.

This is as heartfelt a tribute as there could be - even a thousand words could not say it better. I admire you for it. Best wishes.

She had an incredible voice. She battled her demons, and it looks like the demons won. I don't think that should be held against her. Let her life be a lesson. She was so young.

Agreed, Susan.  One of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard.

She needed a strong force to bounce some of those deceptive thoughts off of. Unfortunately, she surrounded her self with weak, uncaring people who only help to pro-long her misery instead of helping her out of it

Jaime, thank you.

Debbie, She was too young.

Thank you Jason.  I agree.  I always said her voice was so pure, the purest I've ever heard.

Richie, some people do not have the strength to push bad influences away or choose who to surround themselves with.  It's sad.

Susan-You are right it is a great loss and that song is one of the strongest of how powerful and beautiful a voice she had. VERY SAD indeed.

What a waste of someone so talented, in a perfect world she should have graced us with her voice for another 40 - or- 50 years, really sad.

I went and looked in my closet last night... where I store the vinyl and I have several of her albumns and even some 45s.  It's so very sad.

Sharon, I saw a You Tube today where she sang the National Anthem.  It gave me chills.

Steve, in a perfect world, that's the thing, isn't it?

Tammy, beyond sad. xxoo

Kind of like Michael Jackson, I think that as time goes on, the addiction/Bobby Brown part of her life will fade and we'll remember what she did musically most often.

I couldn't have said it better...beautifully stated!  There should be no debate over the merit of mourning her.  She deserves better than that.

I was saddened when Michael Jackson died as well Eric.   What a waste of an incredible talent.

Sharon, she does deserve better.  I see her as a sweet soul who fell victim to substance abuse.  Her voice, her smile, never to be seen or heard again.  It's very sad.

Susan...

As you probably know, Whitmey and her husband lived here in Atlanta for years, so although she was not a "hometown" girl we still feel a special connection with her. Sad, sad story.

Very well put Susan, I have to admit that the thought of what might have been had she not Bobby Brown crossed my mind however..

She certainly did have a great smile and an even better voice... It is a shame, but it does show that her lifestlye wasn't exactly a healthy one...

Susan - She was amazingly talented, and I agree with you.  It's a loss regadless of anything else.
