Perk up your winter with one of these do-it-yourself projects for easy-to-update surfaces, including interior doors, walls and mirrors.

Glass Act
Add pizzazz to a plain mirror with glass tiles. You can use them for backsplashes, shower walls and even a mantel surround. This project is perfect for any bedroom, bath or hallway.

Good to Know:The glass tiles will add weight to the mirror. And if you choose to grout the tiles, this will make the finished piece even heavier. Use appropriate fasteners for your wall type.

Clever Cover
Give interior doors a chance to perk up your space by adding wallpaper, moulding and hardware.

Good to Know: This project works with a flat slab door, but you could also add wallpaper to the raised panels of an existing paneled door in your home.

A Perfect Tin
Go industrial and give an accent wall a bold makeover with this modern, edgy metal look. The tin wall makes a striking focal point in an entry, hallway or home office.

Cabin Chic
Get outdoorsy appeal in any casual space by enhancing a mirror with cedar edging. The rustic mirror looks great against the planked wall, which can be made inexpensively by cutting 4- x 8-foot sheets of plywood into 6-inch-wide strips.

Good to Know: This mirror project is heavy. When hanging, be sure to use large ring hangers and expandable wall anchors mounted to wall studs.

Pop the Cork
Create a well-dressed wall with an eco-friendly material that adds warmth and absorbs sound. Cork has a varied texture that creates a sense of depth and richness on a wall.

Good to Know: When installing cork, there is no need to fill cracks or holes in the wall before you begin. All of the blemishes and flaws will be covered by the cork.

Brick and Beautiful
Install brick facing for a vintage-look wall.

Good to Know: Brick facing offers the charming look of full brick, but it’s much easier to install. It’s thinner, lightweight, and is applied much like tile.
