Computer and Electronics Disposal in Winnetka - Update

You don't have to travel far out of Winnetka to dispose of old computers and other electronics - read my Computer and Electronics Disposal in Winnetkapost from last year:  Computer and Electronics Disposal in Winnetka.

But now there's an update to be aware of if you have continued to throw out certain items in your regular trash.  The State of Illinois previously had enacted legislation that banned televisions and computer monitors from being put into Illinois landfills.

Recently, Governor Quinn and the Illinois legislature expanded the list to include:

  • Computers – PCs, Laptops + Monitors
  • DVD Players, DVR/Cable Boxes/Satellite Receivers
  • Fax Machines
  • Mobile Phones
  • MP3 Players, PDAs
  • Computer Peripherals (Mice, Keyboards, Drives)
  • Printers, Scanners
  • TVs, VHS Players
  • Video Game Consoles
This means that Winnetka sanitary workers are no longer allowed to pick up these items.

Disposal is easy, however.  Just note the drop-off  hours because they are limited:

Winnetka Electronics Recycling
Winnetka Public Works
1300 Willow Road, Winnetka (just west of Hibbard Road, drive through the gates and observe the signs)

Tuesdays - between 10am and noon

Thursdays - between 1pm and 3pm

Margaret, I love it when they have these special days to get rid of things that you shouldn't be throwing in the trash!

Connie - same here - I wish all towns had something as easy as Winnetka to dispose of this junk.
