Recently, I was invited to join Pinterest.
If you asked "What's Pinterest?", you're not alone.
Pinterest is one of the most recent internet start-ups, but it's taken-off with a vengeance.
So, I made my way over to Pinterest to see what the hub-bub was about bub. I looked around a bit, and couldn't quite figure it out. So I migrated away and went back to the business at hand. (yes, backyard monsters was calling me)...
You may still be wonderin just what is Pinterest? they claim to be a social networking site, kinda set up as a scrapbooking bulletin boardy format. It's designed for you to re-"pin" items that you've found on other people's Pinterest sites that you've found interest. Or to upload and pin original content for display. I still don't get it.
Later in the day, the subject of Pinterest came up. A female colleague of mine was droning on and on about it... and I told her I'd just been invited to join... but I didn't get it. She was aghast. She told me that it was by invitation only, and that I should take a second look.
There are lots of pretty pictures, lots of recipes, pithy sayings... ohmigod, my brain went totally numb just looking around. Someone. But I keep getting e-mails telling me that lots and lots of people are following my "pinings"... (I hadn't even pinned anything yet)... so I've gone and repinned a few things of interest... and now I have more followers.
This strikes me a little Twitter-esque. I don't really get twitter, either... and yet twitter has been a huge success... so watch for Pinterest to boom. I wasn't the least bit surprised to learn that 97% of their membership is women.... but I was surprised to find that they only have 16 employees.
