very Pinteresting!

Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

Recently, I was invited to join Pinterest.

If you asked "What's Pinterest?", you're not alone.

Pinterest is one of the most recent internet start-ups, but it's taken-off with a vengeance.

So, I made my way over to Pinterest to see what the hub-bub was about bub.  I looked around a bit, and couldn't quite figure it out.  So I migrated away and went back to the business at hand.  (yes, backyard monsters was calling me)...

You may still be wonderin just what is Pinterest?  they claim to be a social networking site, kinda set up as a scrapbooking bulletin boardy format.  It's designed for you to re-"pin" items that you've found on other people's Pinterest sites that you've found interest.  Or to upload and pin original content for display.  I still don't get it.

Later in the day, the subject of Pinterest came up.  A female colleague of mine was droning on and on about it... and I told her I'd just been invited to join... but I didn't get it.  She was aghast.  She told me that it was by invitation only, and that I should take a second look.

There are lots of pretty pictures, lots of recipes, pithy sayings... ohmigod, my brain went totally numb just looking around.  Someone.  But I keep getting e-mails telling me that lots and lots of people are following my "pinings"... (I hadn't even pinned anything yet)... so I've gone and repinned a few things of interest... and now I have more followers.

This strikes me a little Twitter-esque.  I don't really get twitter, either... and yet twitter has been a huge success... so watch for Pinterest to boom.  I wasn't the least bit surprised to learn that 97% of their membership is women.... but I was surprised to find that they only have 16 employees.

Screw real estate. The money these days is in developing social media outlets.

Home again, home again...

Brian - "Sinterest"... hmm... a new start-up?

Jennifer - that's just what it looks like.. a giant "time suck".

Mimi - some very interesting observations on your part... so... where is this young lady and her luggage?

Cathy - "buyers, buyers, buyers"... sign me up for THAT website.

Christine - it will eat your time.

Joy - I'll check it out.

Peggy - I don't think it's designed for business use.

Brian - now that IS impressive!

Jon - I think it is considered a social network.

Mimi - Brian's comments are androgynous.

Tom - maybe all 16 ARE women?

Jim - and it ain't about to stop.

Margie - no... no jeggings for this guy... the little hairs stick out through the fabric.

Doug - there's lots of money in social media ... if only I could figure out how to harness it.

Androgynous, indeed.  And the 'eye of the beholder' comment was in reference to the girl on my Facebook wall with all of the luggage waiting in the forest . . . or doing something in the forest :)

I have a hard time with AR.  How does everyone do all these sites and still get any work done?

Today is the day that I had planned to accept my Pinterest invite. But, I think I need to go to Social Media University first so that I understand how to use this best.

There is just one thing after another to keep up with. I am trying to use pinterest but still don't really get it. It is really time consuming and gets you sucked in and then you've wasted a ton of time pinning pictures. There are some good ideas for crafts, recipes and such and inspirational quotes.

One way you could maybe use it for real estate is by posting pictures of your listings.

Honestly, I am tired of all those invitations to those "social sites"....I stick with just a few and disregard the new ones...everything else is over-kill to me.....

Chris - well, get on the stick!

Melissa - let us know what you find out.

David - no question about it.

Elizabeth - but I think you would find people avoiding your site, if you did that.  You need to provide things of interest... and I don't think people would be "P"interested in viewing an ad.

Hannah - I know... I have followers, too.

Gina - it's all overkill.  And yet, you have to keep up.

Kathy - I don't get it, yet, either... but I will.

I wish AR had a way to Like people's comments!  Tim's comment (above) is hysterical!  As for Pinterest, I'm still lurking but I can see it has potential.
