I can't tell you how many times I have passed this office without giving it much thought. This changed this weekend. I received in the mail the free Daily Freeman Extra and the headline of an article written by Patricia Doxsey caught my attention; DUTCHESS FOOD PANTRY SEES SHELVES GROWING BARE . The problem seems to be more people needing assistance yet less contributions of both money and food. Was I surprised? not really. So far I have noticed a significant drop off in construction jobs and the related fields in our area. This is significant because a good percentage of the workers in the area relied on construction for their income.
So, when I discovered that the food pantry was related to DCCAP , which is Dutchess County Community Action Partnership, I wanted to know more. I found out that this small group really provides terrific services to the local communities. Yesterday, I wrote about assistance with heating cost through the HEAP program. I found out that DCAP can assist local residents to apply for HEAP.
