Why Real Estate? Why do you do what you do?

I know this has been asked many times on AR.  Everyone has a different answer and they are all correct.   Why did you choose real estate?

My reasons are probably pretty boring but I decided to get my real estate license because I did not want to work in a steel mill for the next 30 years.  My family and I decided that we needed a change geographically and real estate is something that I can take anywhere.

My reasons for keeping my license and practicing real estate sales is simply that it provides my family with a great income and allows my wife and I to work together.  One other thing that keeps me motivated is that I was told that I was crazy for going into real estate and quitting my "real job".  Anytime someone tells me that I can not do something, that is enough for me to prove them wrong.

Why do you do what you do?  What keeps you motivated?

There's no substitute for EXPERIENCE!

Real estate is meaningful.  It gives me an opportunity to make a difference in peoples' lives.  Medicine was out of the question as I faint at the sight of blood and cannot handle seeing people in extreme pain.

Real estate is always challenging, never boring and you never stop learning.

I enjoy being able to set my own schedule, within reason.  I also love being able to reward myself with sleeping in on Monday mornings (after working all weekend mind you) when everyone else is hauling back to the office.

Why do I do what I do?

Good question.  I am a Realtor because I like the flexibility in the hours I work.  The inventory is some what FREE.  What keeps me motivated is having the ability to help sellers sell their homes, and to help buyers buy their home.

I spent 10 years working at a title company as an examiner and later as a mid-level manager.  Being trapped in an office all day was 1 reason.  Commuting for 45 minutes each way, 5 days a week was another reason.  The main reason though was simply having the freedom to work when I want, as much or as little as I want, and take off when I want.  I could not do that with the old job.

Also the fact that I more than doubled my income the year after I left that job was a great incentive too.

My decision was easy. I was a DJ for 18 years and a lot of the couples were buying houses within 3 months of the wedding date and I needed to get a piece of that action. Plus the equipment was getting heavier and the music a lot worse.  OK, the equipment still weighed the same, but I wasn't as strong as I once used to be.
