Buy a Spare Sump Pump for a Back up
In a major storm/rain? Do you think the store will be open? Do you think you'll have time to go get one and replace it before you have a flood? Do you think they'll be in stock - or will the whole town be looking for one in a storm?
At least think about it ok? It's not a bad idea to have one on the shelf, just in case.
I replaced mine with one that does not have an arm and float.
I also have a battery back up. I also have it serviced every year.
I've had wet basements. I don't want another one.
The last home I owned with a basement flooded a week before the closing. I was in Florida and the home was in kentucky. I had to drop what I was doing and drive north to clean up the basement before the closing. Ain't no fun.
Sump pump stopped working while there was a big storm.
Lenn - I haven't heard details about the kind without the arm and float. I'm sure I've seen them though. Even one wet basement is enough!

Gary - Exactly! I guess it would be harder to keep an extra hot water heater handy :) haha But a shop vac and buckets might help :O
