Evergreen High School in Colorado was honored on November 12th during a ceremony in Washington, D.C., as one of only three schools in Colorado to be named a 2007 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School.  The award is one of the most prestigious education awards in the country and honors schools, both public and private, for students who achieve at very high levels and for those schools making significant progress in closing the achievement.

Evergreen High won as a "high performing" school that is in the top 10 percent of all schools on state assessment tests in both reading and math from 2003-06.  Only 287 schools were invited by the U.S. Department of Education to apply for the recognition.

In addition to the academic recognition, the Evergreen High School Cheerleading Squad was also featured in the news last week for adding a classmate to the squad who suffers from Down Syndrome. Apparently freshman Megan Bomgaars is the first cheerleader with this condition to compete in a local mainstream competition.  It was heartwarming to learn that Evergreen's Cheerleaders have customized their routines to include Megan front and center.  Last week at the Regional Cheer Competition at Englewood High School, Evergreen High School took first place in the Small Varsity division. It was the first cheerleading win in recent memory for the team.
