You've piqued my Pinterest!

For the past several months I've kept hearing over and over again, "Guess what I saw on Pinterest?!"  or "I just love Pinterest" and "I can't believe you aren't on Pinterest - you would love it!"  I put it off.  I wasn't interested.  I was already active on Facebook, Linkedin, Houzz and Active Rain.  And forget Twitter.  I haven't been on Twitter in so long, I don't even remember my log in info.  (I may need to revisit Twitter....) Did I really need another social media outlet?  According to statistics, Entrepreneur.com, SEO.com, and numerous other sources, the answer is a resounding, "YES!"

I checked it out, requested an invite and, within a couple of hours, received my notice of acceptance.  I linked to my Facebook friends (that seemed like the next logical step) and even invited a couple of non-pinners.  Now what?  I wanted to be creative with my boards, but not so creative that they were unsearchable.  And then there's branding to consider....

Okay, so my account is set up, I've created some boards and have begun pinning.  This is so different from the other sites!  I haven't figured out how to upload a pin yet.  I've read about a bookmarklet, but I haven't figured out where to find it or how to use it (Tech geeks feel free to reply.....).  I do think that Pinterest could be a very useful tool for Realtors and Stagers.  I think posting pics of homes in Atlanta, Alpharetta, Roswell, Marietta and Canton would be a great way to merge personal and business.  Staging pics are also useful.  It links to Facebook and offers goodies that can be inserted into websites and blogs.  The more I learn, the more I see that this may become a great way to reach out.

If you have any tips, advice, articles or links, please share them.  Oh, and feel free to follow me (tracycoles) on Pinterest!  I promise to return the favor!

I have no advice Tracy, I joined Pinterest a while ago, and other than accumulating followers (I have no clue why) I have yet to do anything with it. I'm fatigued by social networking.

I'm one of the addicted ones!  I don't know how to upload a pin yet but that hasn't stopped me from accumulating hundreds of pins from the site itself.  I'm very DIY so I just plug in something I am interested in making and you get a condensed version of what is all over the internet.  An agent on Active rain has written an article on how to promote the business with Pinterest.

Ok, now you've piqued my Pinterest. I have been invited to join but haven't done so yet. Feeling a little overwhelmed with all the social media stuff that seems to be required to run a business these days. Seems like hours can fly by on some of these sites and I feel Pinterest may be addicting! But I will join and check it out. Thanks for the post.

Tracy, by now you should be a pro.  I do not see any advice here for a new-comber to Pinterest.  I just joined this afternoon, and feel like I am totally in the dark.  Did you ever figure out how to pin the pin???  I created two boards and people are picking up one picture.  I have no idea why.

Rather than use pins from other websites and risk copyright infringement, I downloaded the app so that I any pic I take can be used as a pin.  It has been effective in many ways.  As my real estate career evolves I will use the app to photograph homes and communities for pinboards.  I believe that Pinterest works like google in that the more poplular a pin, the more if comes up in searches.

I was addicted.  I got unaddicted.  Seems you are gone from ActiveRain, so maybe you are addicted?  Or busy with work?

One thing to do whether you are doing Pinterest for business or for pleasure is to use the Pinterest search function to find others in your area who are using Pinterest.  I found local websites, blogs, our newspaper, local magazines.  I get more out of their pins and boards than I do out of boards and pins from people, far, far away for the most part.

Paul's comment #8 was cut and pasted to 9 other posts today, including one of mine about Pinterest.  I think he just did it for the points. I don't think he really gets much else from ActiveRain, even if he says he does.
