Here's a Thought! Don't Spend Your Savings on The Holidays.

By
Mortgage and Lending with Thomas R. Weiss

Okay, So we see that the Holidays are right around the Corner, Christmas, Hanuka,You get the Point! Does that mean we should spend what we don't have on Gifts? If someone you know, doesn't appreciate just being with you, or receiving a card as a Gift, then they are not Good to be around in the first Place.

                                                                                   Happy holidays!

The past year has been tough on just about every person I know, So I could only imagine how it is outside of my Little Box. With the Holidays coming up very Soon, you may feel like you have to spend Money on everyone you know, or else they won't Love You! and thats Incorrect, if someone expects a Gift from you, then they are Wrong. The Holidays just like Thanksgiving, is a time for us to appreciate being with our families, and friends. The Holidays put pressures on the whole world, because we have Labeled the Holidayswith gifts. I understand that it's nice to give, and to Receive, but, "If you don't have it, Then don't spend it" They will understand.

Evil Money Money has created a Evil sense among the most Honest of People, So lets not feel pressured into spending Money this Season, that we just don't have to spend. I know that most people that I know, have had a ton of money problems, but they still insist on using those Damn Credit Cards, to finance their Spending Habits. Some people can Afford to spend Money like it's Free, because it's not theirs to spend.

                                                     RepubliCard

How amazing is that? Spent like there is no tomorrow! Cut the spending Now!! and start Saving, it's the best thing to do right now. We don't have a magic way of letting us know, when the times will change for the better, So do whats right for your Family, and Yourself. You have to learn how to Practice what You Preach.

save your money and one day it'll return the favor

If you insist on Spending then try some of these ideas,

  • Gift Cards.. Good for one Person or Whole Families
  • Clothes
  • Re-Gift something, if you have not used it already
  • Holiday Cards
  • Homemade Cakes or Candies
  • Personal made Gift

Making Holiday, Cakes or Candies, is inexpensive, and Very nice to give as a Gift. Remember it's not the Gift, it's the thought.

Happy Holidays! and Curb the Spending Now!!!! it's Okay.

Tom, After YEARS of overspending and paying bills off for MONTHS, I am reversing my strategies....small gifts that mean something.  We have more then enough of anything that we need and that's just fine.  Thanks for the no pressure reminder.

Tom, how about sending me a few of the "Bills" :)

This time of the year can cause people to make some real bad financial decisions.  It is tough to not get caught up in all the hype and spending.

Tom- This post is really important. Don' t use credit to buy gifts. We make coupons for massages, cleaning the kitchen, washing the cars, etc. The kids love making the coupons, all a labor of love. BTW- It does not matter who is on the card, Bush or Clinton or whoever, they all spend like there is no tomorrow. It is not a  partisan thing. Katerina

I am leaving my credit cards at home ! I started this the day after Thanksgiving and will continue until the 10th of January. I am doing this because of the impulse we sometimes get to buy and because of all those after Holiday sales. I refuse to go into 08 in credit card debt....Great post!

Another thought is to just spend time with family and friends during the season.  I'm finding that there are many fun and inexpensive activities out there to do that only requires a commitment of your time.  I've gone to a couple of holiday light festivals already and I'll be doing more before the holidays are over. Many local schools and colleges have inexpensive holiday shows and recitals.  Whatever you do, just make it quality time!

Good stuff except for one thing I thought I would let you know.  There was an article ( I will send it if I find it)  that talks about the gift cards.  The problem with these is that most of them either go unused and waste your money or they make people go to the stores and of course they end up spending more than they probably should have.  If you really want to help people out and give them a gift, open up an IRA, 529, college fund or any other type of savings plan for them and put some dough in there for them.  Maybe they will get the hint.  Worth a try.  Being a lender and financial planner for many years, I understand that people won't help themselves unless they get a good nudge.  Most of the time anyway.  It is better that we educate them, not the TV!
