To Paint or Not To Paint

By

In redesign or staging the decision to paint paneled walls is easy!  In my opinion, it gives a room an instant update.  We all know buyers look on line first before viewing a property.  A great way to appeal to buyers is giving them updated spaces to see.   Paint can do wonders!  It can lighten a dark room, give a space a cleaner feel and most of all can bring an 80's room up to 2012!

The ultimate goal is to get buyers to your listings through great pictures.  Working with a Home Stager can do just that!  They will advise and work with your client to help the product show better in photos and for showings.

Here is a redesign of painted paneling, see what a difference it made in this room!

Don't you feel like painting some paneling now??

Unpainted paneling screams dated, I agree with you - paint can do wonders to refresh and lighten it up!

I'm glad you agree!   I'm always amazed how different a room can look with a bit of paint!

Wow..what a difference. Having pictures like these in your portfolio is a great way to convince sellers of the benefits of painting (and staging). Sometimes as stagers we can talk until we're blue in the face about the advantages of staging. In this case, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Lisa - This room went from dark and dingy to light, bright and airy.  Painting panelling is a no-brainer, and yet there is still such a resistance to painting "wood"...  Painting panelling is definitely the way to go!

Great point!!! It is so mind boggling to me how a lot of people have such a phobia about painting paneling ( especially the beloved Knotty Pine) !!! The transformation is instant and is much more cost effective for those on a tight budget... Thanks for sharing!!!

I'm with you.  I don't hesitate to paint paneling.  I think that men have a real issue when it comes to painting wood.  As I ask my husband, "what am I supposed to paint? Plastic?".  I love the look of painted paneling. I like the texture on the wall.  I love painted brick too.  It's amazing the difference it makes.  Great examples.

Hi Lisa--I am a huge advocate of painting paneling, and as your photos show it makes a huge difference and removes that "dated" feeling from the room.

oh Leanne you hit the nail on the head!   What is it about men and wood??   When the client in those pictures bought the house she was married but since then had divorced hence we got to paint...

It does make the room lighter and brighter.  I just wanted to stand an look at it all day!  Before it had a campy feel, it was dark and drab.  The client worked from home and spent most of her day in this room.  I'm mean really, which picture would you want to spend your day in?

I am currently working on a project where the owners are not sure if they should paint or not.  I highly recommended painting the panelling and will share this post with them as well.  Thanks for the inspiration.
