So the big day has arrived, and your house is about to become someone else's home. What should you expect?
All of the pre-closing preparations are done (see The HomeVision Group's document: Countdown to Closing), the boxes are packed and on the truck, and it's time for one last look around before you head out to the closing.
Whether your closing is scheduled for 9am or 3pm, it's a good idea to have the majority of your possessions out of the house the night before. This allows time for the last details of making sure you have enough time to finish cleaning. If it fits in the budget, we strongly recommend that you hire someone to do your final cleaning. You will have worked hard to get to this point and, frankly, once you land in your new home you'll have plenty to do!
You do not need to be present for the Buyers' walk through prior to closing. You do need to be sure that:
- the attic has been emptied
- the refrigerator has been emptied
- you have removed everything that was "excluded" in the sale
- you have not removed anything that was "included" in the sale
- utilities should be in the name of the Buyer and should still be turned on
Leaving yourself enough time not to feel pressure to get finished is one key to making this a happy day rather than a super-stressful one!
