Bay Bridge Closed

 San Francisco Bay Bridge

If you're going to San Francisco.......you can't get there by the Bay Bridge this President's Day weekend.

You can leave the City, but you can't come back. The westbound (upper deck) lanes will be closed from 8pm Feb. 17 to 5am Feb. 21. The westbound approach lanes to the bridge are being reconfigured to accommodate construction of the new Eastern section of the bridge.

So if you're in San Francisco and planning to visit the East Bay this weekend, plan your return trip. From Oakland north your best bet is the San Rafael Bridge to Marin County and then the Golden Gate Bridge. Careful, you have to pay tolls on both! That'll cost you $10 total if you have Fast Trak.

Wouldn't you know, I have to be in San Pablo showing houses to a client this Sunday.......

I think it is good that you are warning folks... and giving them a way to return.  I recall the bridges have been closed not too long ago.

Closing the Bridge is a real inconvenience for a lot of folks.  My daughter is going to a party Saturday and is trying to figure you how she will get home.  I think the ferries stop running before she will be ready to leave the City.

Joan, there have been signs on all the freeways warning folks for weeks. I thought it would be interesting for you who are outside the area to know what we go thru.

Evelyn, you can leave the City anytime, you just can't get back in. So if that is the direction your daughter is going - leaving the City - she should be OK.

Wow! That sure looks like a headache in the making. I feel pretty isolated in the little city I live when I see something like this. Good luck showing houses tomorrow, may the force be with you in fighting the traffic.

Have an awesome day!

Michael, the traffic on the two alternate bridges home today is stop and go.... that's what the live traffic maps say. I can hardly wait!

My brother had no choice but to take the BART from Oakland to SFO airport. He didn't mind at all. Gave him an opportunity to relax, read, text while someone else did the "driving". And of course, there's San Mateo Bridge. Where there's a will, there's a way.
